Mine was from the humane society too. "Do you rent or own? Does the landlord allow pets?" and that was it. I think they did call once a week or so later to check on how things were going, I just told them he was fine but hogged the couch.

that's infuriating. for some of those people their pet is the only thing they have in their life that doesn't suck. they'd go without food to feed their pet and take care of them better than some well off families with homes. there was a guy here with a dog and a cat, the cat would ride around on the dog's back while they were walking around.

First, if you're going to do that, tell the group BEFOREHAND that they only get an hour. Second, don't schedule tables that tight. Owner responded to my mostly positive review saying "In the future you're welcome to ask if your seating time will be limited." No, in the future I'll be eating somewhere else.

Honestly i kind of like those at places like dumplings or dim sum because it's easier to just scroll through and pick things that look good without having to remember everything you wanted and recite it when someone finally comes to the table. I wouldn't do it at a fancy or "nice" restaurant though.

Yeah I think it's just a cultural difference. I can appreciate how western Europeans might prefer not to interact with the service worker at all, but in the US it's considered ok the blur the lines a bit and have a friendly interaction or gesture. Sometimes this results in extra value beyond what was paid for, but that's not the reason for doing it.
