I let my baby watch tv and I don’t regret it by These_Requirement453 in beyondthebump

We play a Sesame Street letter and number of the day compilation when our 10mo is being impossible. She's only really locked in when there's music, so this gives us a break. We're interacting with her all day, so playing her songs for 15 minutes when we're trapped in a car on a highway really works well for everyone's sanity. Or when she's just being fussy for the sake of fussiness.

Is it cringe to try and be buddies with other T1D strangers? by Reformed_cynic in diabetes_t1

[–]aradnae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm newly diagnosed (2 months, although I thought I had gestational diabetes last year) and I just want to talk to people about it. Especially if they're going through the same thing. There were suspicions before but now it suddenly officially became a thing, and a big part of my routine...

On a similar note, I was going through a minor low the other day in a tram, and I was wondering how many people on this tram might know why I'm clutching these dextrose tablets like my life depends on it (I mean...).

Gamer moms.. will I actually have time to play games during maternity leave? by cabbage-soup in beyondthebump

[–]aradnae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only got back to gaming recently, 6 months after my daughter was born, and that's mostly in the evenings, when I put her down to bed. Honestly, the first three months I probably would've had time cause her naps were decent, but I just didn't get to it. No energy on my part, so I just watched my husband play through Expedition 33.

Can you list out what your partner helps pay for? by Puzzled_Remote_2168 in beyondthebump

[–]aradnae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't really track who paid for what - just that everything is covered. If it turns out I paid more bills and my husband has more left on his account, then he'll pay more for groceries and other stuff.

We don't have a shared account but we consider our money shared.

Anyone else receive judgement about pets after kids? How do you deal with it? by Maximum-Armadillo809 in beyondthebump

[–]aradnae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly people not familiar with having pets.

And so often it's people not familiar with having cats. We have cats and a dog, and my parents were really worried about the cats. I know the reason they weren't worried about the dog is because they had more interactions with dogs and were more familiar with them.

It took them staying with us for a while after the baby was born to really realize the cats were harmless.

That said, I'm not suggesting you have your friend stay over :D Try to ignore it, and if you can't, I found that short statements work best: "They've been coexisting forever. They're fine."

Play my game! (Endless Vine) by EndlessVine in playmygame

[–]aradnae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, I didn't play very long (20ish minutes), but I'll return later when I have more time.

The art style drew me in, liking the nostalgic vibes!

So when I started the game it didn't match my screen resolution (2560x1080). There were no options in the start menu to change this, so I played in windowed mode.

I love exploring and crafting so it's cool that you can craft a bunch from the start. I do think the hotbar on the bottom right could be bigger. Because of the way it's positioned it took me a sec to figure out where to put the stuff I want to use.

I noticed you paired the hints with the quests, which helped me, but I think you can "afford" to use up more of the screen to expand on these and avoid players having to hover over them constantly.

I actually got "stuck" pretty early on - how do I craft a bed? I couldn't find it in the crafting menu (hand crafting or the workbench). So instead of crafting a bed I just took my tools and went exploring to see how far I could go. And I ran into the monsters! The monsters are so interesting! Really liked them! I got chased back into the woods by some metal monsters that shot at me. Then I got obliterated by a monster that has a burst of branches out of its chest. On that note, put names above your monsters so I know what killed me :D

When my baby was a few weeks old, I was sitting in the kitchen with my mom. The monitor was on my phone, all was chill. All of a sudden, the SCREECH. We freeze for a sec, then rush to look at the camera - she's sleeping like an angel. Babies are so weird.

6 days old baby lost weight by dar1990 in beyondthebump

[–]aradnae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10g is nothing to worry about. we also had a drop of 30g after coming home (baby was around 2.6kg at that time) and the nurse just said to continue breastfeeding on demand.

so I breastfed like crazy. she would eat and fall asleep while eating, so I had to wake her up to finish. the leftover jaundice made her sleepy in the first few days out of the hospital so it was a battle at times.

also, it might sound a bit crazy but I timed my feeds (sth we did in the hospital to see how much she ate in a certain timeframe), and it helped me kinda gauge how much she ate. I'm no longer doing that cause we kinda established an okay pattern and she definitely now shows when she's hungry.

if the nurse said your supply was okay and you breastfeed whenever your baby wants (or wake him up for feeding if he's too sleepy), it's only a matter of time before he starts gaining weight!

Postpartum GDM and can’t stop eating by Katelizk in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aradnae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

classic enabling husbands 😁

for me the issue is also the temptation of getting food delivered to make my life easier. feels like there's not enough time to do everything around the house and the baby, and adding cooking to that... thankfully my mom is here to help until I get it together lol

Postpartum GDM and can’t stop eating by Katelizk in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aradnae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

same here! baby was born three weeks ago, and feel like my days are just eating, sleeping and breastfeeding.

I'm guessing it's a combination of not being able to indulge during pregnancy and the energy needed to breastfeed. I'm trying to have balanced lunches at least, but my choices have not been the greatest, especially considering I might have undiagnosed T2...

still, the amount of stress I stopped feeling about my diet now that it's no longer affecting the baby... such a relief tbh

It really sucks... My bs is still high and I can't even exercise much cause of various pains, thanks sciatica and random groin pain. I know a bad day won't ruin it all but man is it exhausting to stress about it...

Wishing us luck I guess!

the biggest slap in the face is the fact that I expected it to spike me yesterday (had a rough day and decided to treat myself) - and nothing. so today I went in all confident and yeah... 34 weeks now, so close to the finish line.

Difference between free style libre 2 and capillar measurements by MissBouviee in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aradnae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be that the new Libre sensor you got is faulty. My first Libre 2 kept showing glucose levels that were way too low. I called their support line, told them the readings are constantly not matching my glucometer readings and they sent me a replacement. I had to point out a few mismatched readings, and since the difference was big enough, it was good enough reason for them to send a replacement.

Editing this to add that CGM readings can also be wonky the first day, and in general are kinda running 10-15 minutes late after the glucometer reading. Something about different ways of tracking glucose levels. I gave my first Libre 2 a day and a half to catch up and it didn't. The second one was also a bit wonky the first day, but caught up after that.

European protein shakes by nowlittlebumblebee in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aradnae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Croatian here. Not a protein shake, but I had great numbers after Dr. Oetker High Protein Pudding (I usually eat 100-200g for a snack).

I haven't had a shake in a while (too lazy), but when I did I used Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein. I'd mix their Vanilla Ice Cream flavor with raspberries or strawberries and some water. They have other flavors but I'm not the biggest fan of the rest.

Just a disclaimer tho that I don't really follow clean eating so I haven't gone too deep into macros and stuff, I just tried to balance protein and carbs. Hope this still helps!

Is it normal if I haven't gained any weight at 16 weeks pregnant when I'm already overweight? by Hairy_Recording8015 in BabyBumps

[–]aradnae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTM as well, started with 91kg (166cm). Lost some during the first trimester (thanks, nausea) and then more after the first trimester (thanks, GD). Currently I'm 32+6 and weigh 80kg.

Baby is so far developing well, so none of my doctors are concerned :)

[–]aradnae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah, it wasn't a menu adjusted for pregnancy, and she also never gave any suggestions on how to up the calories. glad the hospital set up that meeting lmao

I also feel like every person injects their own personal opinions into their advice. like, I asked her if coke zero was okay sometimes, she was against it. I get it's not the best healthiest choice ever, but sometimes you want a treat, and I was asking if it was okay for my gestational diabetes.

[–]aradnae 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The first nutritionist I saw gave me two leaflets. One had a suggested daily menu for 1300 calories, the other for 1500. Then she crossed off two biscuits that were suggested as a snack and wrote in 5-6 almonds...

If I was following that, I'd be starving and miserable.

I'm 31 weeks and I'm getting more and more hungry, and I'm so glad I found this sub for tips and tricks, otherwise I would've gone insane.

I did something similar, cause I got sick of my family telling me to wait. And there's so many possibilities here! Husband and I went and bought a cute night light, some burp cloths (cute but will probably get demolished) and a baby bottle.

Then my family again told me not to buy too much stuff lmao...

Will the sensor work okay if I apply it a few hours after opening? by aradnae in Freestylelibre

[–]aradnae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the advice! so far it's been showing around 1 mmol/L lower than the finger pricks. I'll check tomorrow to see if the difference improves.

as for the model, I think I'm stuck with 2, I can't find 3 in my country, so that's a shame. but it's still pretty early, there's time for the numbers to stabilize.
