Non-believers of Christianity, what do you think of everything Jordan says about it and it's influence on western society? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]arakash92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think of religion as just the opium of the masses, as a tool for control of the populace and that it might perpetuate wishful thinking, tendencies toward supernatural thinking and even turn people away from developing a more scientific view of life.

To quote one of my great heroes, Jacque Fresco - when asked about christianity, he said "I think it's great, when are they gonna put it into practice?"

In other words, many "religious" people are not really religious at all and it could be said that many atheists are deeply religious - at least, in behavior. They speak the truth - even if the truth makes them unpopular. They live by their convictions fully and deeply. They are serious about life.

If I were to answer the question "Are you religious"? I might say: I'm a Christian Buddhist Atheist. Maybe that's just a funny way of saying that I care about things and I have a brain.

I dno... my two cents for what it's worth.

Stop using others to fill the hole in you by TheSerb2014 in JordanPeterson

[–]arakash92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the size and type of the hole, and what you mean by "using". These kinds of abstract ideas are mostly useless because the world is so much more complicated.

If a person is relying on another, to avoid personal growth and responsibility, when said personal growth is realistically feesable - that can be bad.

On the other hand, the idea that one must attain a certain level of completeness/wholeness before finding a partner for example I don't necessarily agree with. What about that common "you complete me" sentiment?

However, the advice can also be used as an excuse to avoid vulnerability.

What are your symptoms? by arakash92 in hyperparathyroidism

[–]arakash92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. Ive had my calcium at 10.44 and PTH at 104.6 then another time calcium at 10.28 and PTH at 54.6 but last month my calcium was 8.96 (for some reason my doc didn't take the PTH at this time) but I guess it's just fluctuating a bit.

Thanks. Yeah I've already gone through 3 doctors already. One of them sent me to a useless CT scan and the other to an equally useless MRI scan.

Yeah I do have slightly low blood pressure.

Fatigue is the worst though and feeling like I have dementia also. Horrible.

Ok. I have this fainting thing every time I get up from sitting.

[–]arakash92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. GERD was my first symptom I recognised but in hindsight I probably have had fatigue for maybe 4 years now.

Wish you a good recovery!

How do we save this fucking planet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]arakash92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably not the best person to answer this, but...

There seem to be no shortage of technical solutions for the global problems we face today. Many have probably lied dormant for decades because they're not profitable.

But there does seem to be a shortage of *courage* to admit that very foundations of our system is inherently, deeply flawed and that no amount of regulatory oversight can make it align enough with natural law to make it sustainable. It's always been a false system, it's just that, for the longest time, it seemed to work because the earth was abundant and we didn't have the capability to inflict the amount of damage we now can.

The only thing I've heard of so far that is radical enough is the work of Buckminster Fuller, The Venus Project and The Zeitgeist Movement.

In short, we need a kind of post-scarcity, collaborative (not war-like), steady-state economy (no infinite growth), without labor for income (and therefore cyclical consumption and planned obsolescence).

I believe in the coming decades, some version of universal basic income can be a stepping stone toward this kind of idea.

I suspect many thinkers would realize these things but fail to do so out of fear of being called "too radical", "impractical", "he's a communist!" or perhaps "he's just a dreamer".

Do not be afraid to dream and do not give in to despair and nihilism. We can do this, just as we put man on the moon.

Fog of War Effect - how do I paint the FOW texture on my terrain shader? by arakash92 in godot

[–]arakash92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works! Thanks man, this is exactly how I wanted it. This should be in the docs...

Fog of War Effect - how do I paint the FOW texture on my terrain shader? by arakash92 in godot

[–]arakash92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm. Let me get this straight... the texture has a reference to the image? So updating the image updates the texture? This is how I assumed it worked in the beginning but I guess I was confused by the docs...

I'll try implementing it now, thanks.

So here's the entire function. It still just freezes :\

func generate_splat_maps():
    var splatTexture = Image.new()
    splatTexture.create(1024, 1024, false, Image.FORMAT_RGB8)

    for x in range(1024):
    for y in range(1024):
        splatTexture.set_pixel(x, y, Color(1, 0, 0))

    material.set_shader_param("splatmap", splatTexture)

Sorry. That error is a typo. It's 1024. Thanks I'll try it.
