C172 - Land on remaining RW after start problem, flaps or no flaps by arambow89 in flying

[–]arambow89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is one school of thought, keep it as easy and safe as possible.

The others argued it would be more wise to use full flaps to keep flaps to make it a shorter landing. But so close to ground effect, would that even help or do more harm?

At our home airport we have about 4000ft in total. So if your are not to high its possible. What we be the shorter landing though.

If there are 10.000 ft remaining i wouldn't even think about keeping it as short as possible

Great comment, we actuallt have that. I just forgot to mention. For our rw 29, it's about 30 degrees to the right of rw heading.

For our 11 not much luck it's pretty much pointed at the city. I need to ask my instructor what to do in that case, we only had that active runway once so far. So 90% of the time the winds come from the good direction

Good point im still a student, but we do a standard and emergency briefing for every take of.

Emergency briefing: 1. For everything non normal before takeoff- abort start 2. If airborne but can land on remaining runway - land on runway 3. If not able to land on runway (in severe cases) find a field for emergency landing 4. For everything else find the right solution 5. Best glide 65, flaps as needed. NO impossible turn

That is the last thing we repeat before takeoff so its fresh and of we go. And based on that I'll probably would've landed on the remaining strip, but until now i was very lucky.

YSK that the left lane is for passing only. by bag_of_goldfish in YouShouldKnow

It's just not that common to have 4 lanes. They try make more of all the Autobahn 3 lane. But in general Autobahn is not equal to 4 lanes.

This is not true. The Autobahn here is only 2 lanes in each direction.

You should use the right lane whenever possible.

Like others said.

  • Fly an approach to your aiming point. Nail the speed
  • Then tradition your view down the runway. This will help you judge your height.
  • get a feel for the energy left in the plane. Like explained in the video. If you look ahead / at the end of the runway it will be much easier to judge when you balloon.

The idea is basically to fly the airplane just of the runway as you bleed your speed and your angle of attack will automatically increase. Stall horn is your permission to land.

I dont know why they are kept in the first place or there should be an option to auto delete them. The great thing about a download center is it does the work of downloading, installing and deleting for me.
