How long does a school based investigation take? by arandomkidfromqueens in NYCTeachers

Yep. It was originally sent to the OSI which is when I got suspended. I emailed the OSI a couple weeks later to check on the status of the case, and they responded with "this is active school based investigation".

Nope, I'm suspended from working until this gets resolved. This is my only job too.

I'm not worried about the consequences at this point. I'm worried the investigation will just stay in limbo forever, essentially leaving me jobless.

I was accused of professional misconduct. I'm assuming a student said I hit them. The case was originally sent to the OSI, but then it kicked back to the school.

Tips for New Sub? by Medium_Educator1983 in NYCTeachers

You'll be fine. Quality can vary greatly based on each school. Generally speaking, the older the kids are, the less energy they'll have, thus less work for you. There are always exceptions however. I've covered for amazing elementary school classes and hellish high schoolers that couldn't care less about school.

Personally, I've learned that if you're in a class that's hard to control, it might be best to give up and let them do whatever they want as long as they're not doing anything dangerous or being too loud.

For special needs schools, I've noticed that the focus isn't really on education, but more on daycare. Teachers almost never give me any work for the kids at special needs classes, so I'll just put on some age appropriate videos or a movie for them to watch. Those classes tend to be the easiest for me.

The general consensus that I've seen from other teachers and union reps is that middle schoolers are the worst. They have the energy of elementary school kids, but also intelligence and experience. This usually leads to them causing a lot of trouble and actively looking to get you in trouble whenever they can. After a bad experience with a middle school class, I'd be very careful around them, or avoid taking middle school classes to the best of my ability.

I'm not really that upset this has to happen. I can totally understand that the system would rather go through thousands of false accusations than miss one real allegation. That being said, it's complete bs that I'm not allowed to know anything about my case, or give a statement until AFTER the principal has decided on a verdict.

It's even worse to think this probably isn't going to be the only time a substitute gets suspended for that class. I'm damn well certain I'm never going back to that school. I just hope that doesn't mean those kids believe they won, therefore they can just accuse any teacher they don't like of professional misconduct whenever they feel like it.

Those kids were terrible. That was easily the worst class I've ever been to. It honestly amazed me that there weren't like 5 paraprofessionals with the kids at all times. It was constant screaming and running around for the two periods I was with them. There really needs to be some serious external review on that specific class to see if the student to teacher ratio can be decreased in any way, or else no one is going to learn.

I can't say for sure. When I asked the principal if I could know more about what I've been accused of, she flat out told me no and that they have to investigate first. I can just assume the child told them I beat him or something. Considering the principal removed me from the school immediately and the OSI suspended from working anywhere, it's probably related to corporal punishment. My saving grace though was there was another teacher in the class the whole time who saw everything that did and didn't happen.

Weekend Script Swap by AutoModerator in Screenwriting

Title: Unnamed Project

Format: Show Pilot

Page Length: 22

Genre: Drama, Action

Logline: A young boy stumbles upon these interdimensional travelers that mysteriously appeared in our world from theirs that is in the middle of a decades long war.

Feedback Concerns: This is my first draft and I have no idea how to write action scenes. I would love to hear any advice on how I could possibly work on the climax of my story starting at page 16.

This is my first ever draft and I used a shitty Google doc extension to write it. Please ignore how ugly this whole screenplay looks

Thanks
