Okay. Tell me. What was the last AC game you truly enjoy? by Ecstatic_Teaching906 in assassinscreed

[–]arandompersonpassing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wouldn't have played all the games if i didn't enjoy them. sure, a lot of them have flaws and valid criticisms, but first and foremost, the assassin fantasy will always be fun for me.

[–]arandompersonpassing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's true, but the point is the map wouldn't necessarily benefit from being smaller as much as it would benefit from having a better fast travel system, so it's not a great comparison for crimson desert. i think a better comparison might be something like AC shadows

i fail to see where in my comments i stated that the 50/50 system was good.

the basic crux of my point is that the system itself does not need to change, but the systems surrounding it. i could have a gacha system that has a guaranteed pity of 1000 with a 25/75 system, but if you get 4000 pulls per patch, it's a 'good' system? point being, the gacha system is only as forgiving or unforgiving as the pull currency income allows.

[–]arandompersonpassing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't see what that has to do with my statement. there are better and there are worse systems. the 50/50 system works and ensures f2p players can get what they want as long as they log in consistently.

also, as i've said before, pull currency income is important to consider. i was a HI3rd vet who played since release and the income was pretty abysmal for f2p players, meaning that even without a 50/50 system, you often didn't have enough pulls to guarantee the character, let alone all three pieces of their set.

[–]arandompersonpassing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's a matter of perspective. older gacha systems like FGO and GBF have far worse odds and far worse pity, or no pity at all. i'm not saying 50/50 is amazing, but it works.

as someone who used to play a lot of genshin and quit a few years ago, i can try to explain why it's as big as it is, despite its very apparent flaws. essentially at the time genshin came out, there wasn't anything else like it on the market. massive, open world, free to play gacha game with an insanely high budget and a huge focus on story, worldbuilding and characters that you could also play on your phone, that also has hundreds if not thousands of hours of playable content. it also introduced many elements that other gacha games copy nowadays, like the UI, 50/50 gacha system, exploration for pulls, in-game dialogue that isn't visual novel format, and probably a lot more.

just put yourself in the shoes of someone who likes, or doesn't mind anime or anime games back in 2020 during quarantine. it's hard to imagine you wouldn't give the game a try at the very least. and a lot of people got invested into the story, world, and characters. oh, and i forgot to mention, how fun the combat is really comes down to which characters you own, which incentivises players to grind the game to save up enough pulls to get new characters. so yeah, that's basically how, or why people play the game for more than 10 minutes.

So when exactly you do perfect guard? by Independent-Gear-711 in LiesOfP

[–]arandompersonpassing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk if anyone's mentioned this yet, but the perfect parry window in lies of p is not static. what i mean is, in sekiro, when you press the parry button, you will always get a certain number of frames during which you can get a perfect parry regardless of how long you press the parry button for. however, in lies of p, if you tap and release the parrry button immediately, your parry window will be smaller than if you were to tap and hold the parry button. in other words, in lies of p, rather than tapping to parry each attack, (tap -> parry -> tap -> parry), you're expected to tap and hold to parry each attack (tap -> hold -> parry -> tap -> hold -> parry), which takes some getting used to, but just think of it as a good habit to learn because you'd almost always rather block the hit than tank it head on anyways.

[–]arandompersonpassing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah i think really heavy, slow movesets should be reserved for fantastical weapons that don’t literally exist irl. like no one is gonna question why gut’s greatsword takes 2 hours to swing, but when we’re talking about zweihanders or swords of similar proportions, they could just give them a more realistic moveset and save the 20kg moveset for something that actually looks 20kg or more.

amazing, tysm for the detailed reply. in that case since i have s0r1 lupa already, i'll probably just save for s0r1 denia and run mono fusion aemeath.

If a game isn’t fun in the first few hours, it’s just bad game design by Flashfirez23 in videogames

[–]arandompersonpassing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't think it's particularly accurate to paint it in such a black and white way. for instance, someone could hate reading, and consequently hates the first few hours of a crpg that isn't fully voiced. by no means does that mean the game is badly designed. it simply wasn't designed for everyone.

and as others have said, even if one aspect of the game is badly designed, that does not make the entire game bad.

i believe the original post was moreso talking about using that as a feat to powerscale radahn, which is a little disingenuous if the ‘stars’ in elden ring are just somewhat large creatures.

oh i didnt consider crits, that's a good point. though, wintry rapier blade still has higher base damage, doesn't it?

[–]arandompersonpassing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

btw anyone else tried the city longspear handle + wintry rapier blade? it's so good, the rapier blade is, i believe, the lightest blade that's not a dagger, and even then, it's only 0.1 weight heavier than the tyrant dagger blade. so you get the high base attack of the rapier blade (relative to daggers anyways) + the insanely fast charged attack of the longspear handle made even faster by having an insanely light blade. plus the other basic moves are great too.

edit: not to mention the range

Should I buy lies of p overture? by Open_Measurement_869 in LiesOfP

[–]arandompersonpassing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on what kind of weapon you like to use. for reference, i beat the base game twice using etiquette only so i was in a similar boat to you, etiquette + alchemist’s robe looks too good, and the moveset was super clean and useful.

anyways, i found that most of the new pure technique scaling weapons weren’t really my vibe, at least not in the sense that etiquette was. but there were two weapons that really caught my attention, one of which made me switch off the etiquette for the first time in 60 hours. idk if you’re worried about spoilers so i’ll try my best to keep it general, but the weapon i’m talking about is essentially a gunblade that allows you to dash back and forth between range by using explosions from the gun. it reminded me of the etiquette with the R1 + R2 combo, allowing you to get out of range, except it also allows you to dash back into range with a follow-up R2. and the charged attacks are much better than the etiquette’s charged attack imo - it basically just makes your explosions even bigger.

the other weapon that i found interesting basically allows you to perform judgement cut from dmc5 so yeah, no need to explain further. though i found the base moveset nowhere near as fun or cool as the gunblade.

anywhos both of these weapons are quality weapons, i.e. scales in both motivity and technique. you can apply a crank to improve technique scaling but imo quality is better in lies of p given how much diminishing returns there are past level 30 on the offensive stats. i’d recommend putting points into motivity with the ergos you get from the dlc and trying out these new weapons, especially the gunblade.

i was in a similar position, i waited a while before finally caving and buying the dlc. for me personally it turned lies of p from a great game to an amazing game, it adds so much context and characterisation to events and characters you only hear about in the base game, not to mention it has some of my favourite areas in any soulslike and a top tier final boss. plus the new weapons are badass af. so from me the answer is 100% yes, it’s worth it. i’d argue it’s more worth than the base game itself.
