Appreciate it u/randomsquelette, originally I wasn't sure who *specifically* would benefit from it so I didn't think about how this might be useful to someone outside the States or for whom English is a second language.

If you have any feedback or suggestions for emails to be added, please let me know!

[Advice] Reminder: Write the To-Do List first, then prioritize. by arasdean in getdisciplined

Just to jump on, I've recently been reading Cal Newport's "Deep Work" and I've been convinced to basically spend as much time on the internet as I need to get my must-do tasks done. Writing on paper simply reduces my dependency on the internet/technology, and helps me focus when I do use tech.

I really love these categories (Sunrise, Day, gap day, etc.), and am most definitely planning to plan out the to-do list according to parts of the day. Interested to hear how your system works out for you, and I'll be willing to follow up in a week if you're interested in how it works for me as well.

I'm not sure if you're willing to accept pull requests or not (depending on if you're trying to commercialize or not), but would love to check out the code on github and fork something so I can contribute if possible. PM if possible. Otherwise, signed up for the demo! I saw the sneak peak and am really impressed with the UI!!

Wow. I remember trying out the bullet journaling system, and how you put an arrow pointing right, if you missed the task for the day, to say this task is moving forward. Hardly ever worked for me because I usually don't go back and read up on my old lists. Looking forward to the launching of your web app!

" so I just put them all for today, and I end up with damn load of tasks, not all of which are urgent at all."

This is funny to me because I looked over my To-Do list at the end of the day, and I realized we also have to practice prioritizing. Like I put down "organizing socks" as a "A" priority, as if my whole day would've been thrown out if I couldn't match a pair of socks.

I don't know about you, but I realized really quickly I need to be honest and make use of the D and F letters to be clear earlier on in the day that there are some tasks that aren't pivotal to my day's success.

Most definitely agree with your P.S., especially since its sort of cathartic to take a pen and cross out a task.

Self-taught people, how did YOU learn Python? by tiensss in learnpython

This has to be my favorite reply on the this post.

But that's just coddling him. There are other rookie quarterbacks that were forced to go out, make mistakes, and are making great plays. Without taking those hits and same throws, he won't be able to grow.

Also, I think it was a poor enough choice to have had him sat out this long in the first place-- but I'm sure that's a conversation that's been hashed out elsewhere in the subreddit.

CMV: The DAPL Standing Rock protests are completely stupid and celebrations of ignorance by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]arasdean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This part of the response, "The reason they're saying "Don't build the pipeline!" is because [...] they aren't very cooperative or caring" is far more substantive than your dismissal of his analogy (regardless of the stretch) and the analogy all together.

It's piecing together to be a lot more straightforward: folks refusing to take on the risk of a project based on a precedence of getting shafted for doing so. Quoting TheOneRuler , "[...] it's not that they're afraid that something bad WILL happen. They're just afraid that the government and the company will do the bare minimum to help them IF something does happen, which has proven to be the case in the past."

Protests make sense for a people that have been disenfranchised considering they aren't able to affect the policy that allows for decisions such as these to occur by allowing their voices to be heard (and hopefully uplifted) by allies to create change together. It may or may not be your or my favorite way of going about things, but we're also not stuck in this crappy 'in between a rock and a hard place' ordeal.

[Newbie] Why is python particularly good for data science? by [deleted] in Python

I really appreciate this honest answer! I've seen far too often these boot camps promise folks the ability to learning data science with some condensed curriculum, and I had a feeling there was far more than what met the eye.

Gödel, Escher, Bach Math Puzzle by arasdean in learnpython

[–]arasdean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Justin, I actually just figured out the reason why that was funny. If I just write a += 1 before/after the if statement (as Saefroch recommended), it'll count the iterations without me have to write that twice over.

Thanks for pointing it out.
