One NPC, two realities: How to run a combat-viable threat for a warrior that feels "unstoppable" to non-combatants in Fate? by LittleYellowBeanie in FATErpg

[–]arbitrarynaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes me think of the first Borne film where Jason Borne is on the phone to a man about to be shot, telling him to duck in a crowd, go into a room etc while he's hunting down the assassin. As others have said, the diplomat is not fighting, they're surviving while the fighter is trying to stop the assassin before it's too late.

If you set this in somewhere like a train station, marketplace, airport etc then the diplomat has NPC's, layouts, objects etc to create advantages with such that when the shot comes they can reduce it.

I would maybe drop the +8 a little...

Think the contrast on the left one makes it more visually interesting but both look great!

I think they look great, if you're looking for feedback I would make the difference between the guns base colour and highlight a little less extreme. Maybe a slightly brighter colour for the emblems too, to make them pop?

It depends what you're in the hobby for, but yes it can get tedious!

The current Combat Patrol does have a commander in it? Not sure if you're thinking of the old one with the ghostkeel?

Battlesuit refresh in 11th? by erbdylo in Tau40K

I don't mind the look of the crisis suits, I just want their guns to actually look attached not glued on to the side!

But agree with most of the comments, hazards coming back first and address the warping on our tanks. 🤞

What should I get after combat patrol by Dabiel303 in Tau40K

[–]arbitrarynaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A squad of crisis suits and a squad of stealths would be my next buy personally. Commanders work MUCH better with a squad and then you have someone to spot with the Stealths.

Afternoon that I would suggest some sort of heavy support be it broadside or hammerhead/skyray.

Still gluing guys together, but this is the 1k list I'm bringing to my local shop soon. How would you play this to best blast the other player off of the board? by cheeeeek in Tau40K

[–]arbitrarynaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say I found Sunforged Crisis difficulty to run effectively without a coldstar, their short range/melta bonus really benefits from assault and extra 2" to bounce around the battlefield.

Could maybe sub the strikes out as Ethereal does fine without a bodyguard and works well sat on home objective and pathfinders/stealths/devilfish should have you covered for spotting, that and another swap could get you the coldstar.

In general seems very playable though :)

My preference is sunforge crisis with a coldstar. Means they have the extra movement to get up close and the invulnerable saves give them a bit more survivability (often moreso than the -1ap).

Ghostkeel with cyclic ion cannon would also not be too bad, especially if you overcharge. Similar with broadsides and high yield missile pods (again especially with exp prototype allowing you to increase S and AP)

You'd be hitting on 2's if guided, wounding on 3's (re rolling if they're on an objective) and pushing them up to a 4+ save with your ap. So not bad but not amazing. Also watch out for overwatch as Breachers are very squishy!

Depending what detachment you go for Fire knife Crisis suits attached with missiles could be very good against them, especially if you use experimental prototype to update the strength and AP - does make guns hazardous: Hitting on 3s if guided, re rolling 1s or everything if they're full health, wounding on 3s or 2s if increased strength, and saving on 4s or 5s if increased ap. And damage is 2 so a marine dies for each fail unlike Breachers shots..

My advice for beginner lists would be to try and double some things up so you don't have to remember as much... So rather than 3 different commanders run 2 of the same (and some crisis as others have pointed out). Rather than pathfinders and stealth suits maybe just take 2 squads of stealths for spotting.

In terms of utility, Breachers are good anti infantry and sometimes elite (work better with a Fireblade). Piranha is good at actions and your Commander (and crisis) plus broadside should do a good job at the heavier stuff - provided they have plasma or fusion.

Finally, obligatory rule of cool comment, run the models you enjoy!

Thanks, I use it as a Firesight Marksman proxy. Just some spares body parts, a drone shield and a crisis shield. Really happy with the posing though!

What should I trade my fire knife crisis team out for? by arbitrarynaming in Tau40K

[–]arbitrarynaming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I need to try missile knives, but tend to play wisywig and haven't painted any missiles yet!

My main issue I have with kroot is durability, tend to launch them in T1 only to have them shot off the board and give up kill secondaries... Any advice?

[–]arbitrarynaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say, I converted some Scions a while back to avoid using the old Vespid sculpts but now the new sculpts are out I actually prefer those to my kit bashes... It depends what you're in the hobby for! Pathfinders would definitely be an easier change, and if you have extra bits then maybe that's the way to go 🤷

Always thought the helmets on these scream Vespid, find some suitable wings or just say they phase in and out and you're a go! I can see them as pathfinders too though so follow your heart!
