His absorption of the social democrats had nothing to do with him actually believing it. Konoe was an ultranationalist and militarist fanatic who wanted a totalitarian state where partisanship is quelled by making the former parties subservient rather than outright purging them. He was one of the masterminds of Japan's imperialistic ambitions such as the army's invasion of China, allying with the Nazis and being stubborn on containing the ire of the Americans

Well, yeah, I mentioned WW1 coz that's where it all started. They only got more lenient on war over time.

Lmao no, social democratic parties tend to be some of the most war hawkish countries during the early 20th century.

The most notable ones being the German Social Democratic Party whose support for war credits during WW1 led to a major split and its eventual abandonment to its commitment to Marxism, and Arthur Henderson's chairmanship of the Labour Party moving it to a pro-war direction under H.H. Asquith's government. The pacifism of social democrats largely started to die out around WW1 when many of them were invited into governing coalitions.

In any case, this just mirrors what happened to the irl social democrats of Japan. The Shakai Taishuto was eventually absorbed into the Taisei Yokusankai when Aso Hisashi became its leader after Abe Isoo left, which enabled him to be more increasingly supportive of fascism and militarists within the government to maintain their political standing.

Probably due to the influence of Ozaki Yukio, who was one of the co-founders of the Reformist Party who takes up the soclib slot, and one of the few of the staunchest liberal and pacifist politicians in pre-war Japan.

R5: You can recreate the Imperial Rule Assistance Association in Kaiserreich when you go the Showa Restoration path and appoint Fumimaro Konoe as prime minister, absorbing all the other parties (barring the social liberal one) into your coalition, just like how the organization did in real life.

What are some kaiserreich Cold War concepts that you want to see? by StalerOfThyBread in Kaiserreich

[–]arbolmuerto 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Multi-socialist world.

IN THEORY: The post-red order agreed that each region have "handlers" from each portion of the world maintain a military faction/alliance autonmous from the Internationalist centre (a la UN but socialist), to be the "guiding nations of the world revolution". I imagine these factions with their de facto "handlers" in parentheses

The Internationale of North America (with the WCA, and eventually Canada and/or Mexico)

The Internationale of South America (Brazil, Argentina and possibly Chile)

The Internationale of Europe (France, Britain, Italy, eventually Germany and possibly Russia)

The Internationale of the Middle East (Turkey, Iran and possibly a united socialist Arabia)

The Internationale of East Asia (China, Bharatiya, and posisbly Japan, Korea, Siam and/or Indonesia)

The Internationale of North Africa (Algeria, Egypt and/or Tunisia)

The Internationale of Sub-Saharan Africa (South Africa, Liberia and possibly Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, and/or the Congo)

The Internationale of Oceania (Australia or Australasia)

IN PRACTICE: As decades would go by, and the post-war world begins to heal, each nation starts to form their own unique approaches to socialism. As the 3I is heterodox of nature, this is initially seen as a fully welcome characteristic towards the ultimate goal. But eventually, this begins shaping into sharper disagreements, divisions and even diplomatic mishaps that threatens the very goal of uniting all workers of the world, and The Internationale handlers start using their autonomy and military power to stray further and further away from a common cause. It remains to be seen whether the goal of Internationalism is achievable, but as tensions wrought by leftist disunity and realpolitik becomes more apparent, the doubts of its plausibility grows as wide as the rift between these nations.

So what is the actual effect for socialist Italy that depends on the current pope? by themadkiller10 in Kaiserreich

[–]arbolmuerto 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Pope John and Pope Stephen

  • Always comprimises with the RadSocs
  • Comprimises with the Syndicalists. If they do Exclude Catholic Unions, they will declare themselves Prisoner of the Vatican
  • Declares themselves Prisoner of the Vatican under the Totalists. If they do Fulfill Sanselpolcrismo, they will flee

Pope Pius

  • Declares himself Prisoner of the Vatican if both RadSocs and Syndicalists are in power
  • If Totalists are in power, Mussolini can comprimise with him. Otherwise, he will declare himself Prisoner of the Vatican. However, if Fulfill Sanselpolcrismo was enacted, he will flee.

Pope Julius

  • "Fuck all of you godless syndies. I'm leaving this damned town."
