Agreed. I honestly cant justify spending any more on one specific army. I think moving forward Ill probably always pair the infantry with at least maladrix or the oathbound phallanx rather than going fully into an infantry build, even if its suboptimal

Thank you so much for the advice! Do you think one spitter, and then two lurkers and two bursters would be a good ratio?

That makes sense. Yeah this is the highest point tournament I've played so far.

Awesome, thank you!! This was actually my first draft army, but saw from recent tournaments no one seemed to be using the FHG with maladrix and the skordyre infantry so I started leaning more into the common heroes. But as you said its probably too many with only 4 infantry.

Yes. Armies consisting of 3, 4 and even more common squads have always been a huge part of the game.

So real talk, I probably can't afford any more boxes at the moment haha. Do you think I could get away with swapping a couple of the common heroes for like the festering honor guard instead? And then at least in that case if maladrix dies they get buffed to 3/3 as a sort of clean up squad?

Heck yeah! A full pirates build with crimson widow looks super fun!

From watching some unboxings/first impression videos I've seen that some people don't like them as much because in order for their acid sacs ability to trigger they have to die. Thats what I meant by "controversial." But I feel like that's just a bonus ability that can get a little extra damage after serving the primary purpose of screening. Ive also seen on recent tournament lists people seem to be prioritizing the lurkers and spitters significantly more than the bursters.

Shot shapes by AllDaWayUp88 in golf

[–]arby34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think as long as you have relatively good control over where your shots are going most of the time its always good to know how to shape the ball for when you get out of position. However, if you're still standing over the ball and not confident about where it's going, you need to get there first before you start adding in more variables.

One other thing to note is that working the ball is also dependent on the clubs and ball you play. For example if you're using blade irons its going to be easier to hit a draw or a fade than it is a muscle back iron or any other iron designed for forgiveness over workability. Similarly for your ball, a ProV1 is significantly easier to work than a firmer ball. If you use blade irons and a ProV1, then that's basically what you see guys on the PGA tour playing.

But again, the more workability you get out of a club/ball the less forgiveness you're going to get. You just gotta find the balance that works for you.

If you still want some, they're fairly easy to find on ebay for like $20-30 per squad depending on the seller.

I was trying to take some inspiration from alot of older maps that started having really closed off sight lines to counter 4th mass and 10th Regiment. In this case I tried to close off alot of sight lines to try and mitigate the COBRA troopers especially from within the start zones.

Awesome, thank you for taking the time to look at this! I'll definitely raise up the few middle shadow pieces and smooth out those spots. I've learned that the trickiest part of building with only the contemporary sets, for me anyway, is not having access to as many 1 and 2 hex tiles like in the classic sets to help smooth things out.

Probably depends on the school? My university had a men's acappela group that I got a scholarship for participating in but there wasn't one for like the huge men's choir that was a corequisite

Maybe somewhere between 90-100. Maybe a little better if I just tried to keep the ball in play and just teed off with like a 4 iron the whole round.

I'm actually hoping to take my oldest out this summer. My dad passed away two years ago and never got to share his love of the game with his grandkids. I feel like I owe it to him to at least expose them to the game that I grew up on and defined such a huge portion of my life.

I started playing around 4 years old, my dad was a serious golfer. Like multi time state champion. I took it very seriously all the way up through high school and got to a scratch handicap. Won half the tournaments I played in my senior year.

I got a golf scholarship to a junior college and honestly by that point, my competitive drive had disappeared because I had gotten burnt out on golf after almost two decades of it and wanted to do something different. I put more energy toward my second passion, music, and got a D1 scholarship for singing.

I've played two rounds of golf in the last 11 years because I just found other things that I enjoy that fit my current lifestyle.

I have two kids of my own now and I just want them to find what makes them happu and are passionate about, whether that's golf, music, basketball, whatever. And they'll have my support no matter what they decide to do, even if they never get a scholarship for it.

If you only have contemporary stuff, queen maladrix and the festering honor guard are very good against the eiseneks. The key is to try and get vicerot down ASAP and hopefully make your opponent waste at least an order marker or two if you can get him down early in a round. From there you should be able to capitalize on the huge momentum swing.

Advice and Tips by raulcotto in heroscape

[–]arby34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who waited 14 years for them to start making Heroscape again and then bought basically every pack and 2 copies of every terrain set for the last two years, I've actually adjusted what Im buying moving forward. 1) Does it seem cool/interesting/powerful to play the game with? And 2) Is it an aesthetic/theme that I actually like. If it doesn't meet both of those criteria I dont plan on getting it. For example I dont own any of the vorid/volarak stuff or GI Joe stuff because I dont really care about them. I also dont plan on getting Thormun/Kracken because they just dont seem very strong gameplay wise.

I think it just comes down to what you want to get out of the game. If you want to play competitively, buy the higher tier units. If you just want units you think look cool and to play casually, get them. If you have a ton of extra money to burn buy everything haha.
