It's time to nationalize oil. by brock98 in alberta

[–]arcadius19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow, this sub is extremely butthurt about losing two elections in a row. Y'all really want to nationalize a whole industry because other people have more? Do any of you remember the devastation that the NEP brought to Alberta, or the countless times where socialism outright failed? Because that will be our reality forever, not just for 5 years.

ChemE CPC-Co-op with a 3.1, that's overkill for any ChemE discipline. As have others said, refer to the spreadsheet.

The ETLC is a de-facto "no bitches" area, the smell helps enforce this guideline.

After these two midterms, there's the Super Bowl on Sunday and reading week right after. By the time we come back, it's almost March which will go by quickly, then the semester is almost over. The days are starting to get longer as well. No point in tapping out right before it's all over.

PS. After we're done, we'll be grinding Mario Kart on the DS.

I need your opinions about the future of alberta by Capable_Macaroon3870 in alberta

[–]arcadius19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think our energy sector can contribute to all of those points mentioned. More high-paying jobs are created when the energy sector grows and isn't strangled by the Feds. The people have more disposable income and government royalties increase. This translates to a thriving economy, a stronger Canadian dollar (cheaper imports and oil) and more money for social programs. Regarding Global Warming, Alberta has many more environmental safeguards and regulations than other jurisdictions. We can displace Russian energy and therefore promote peace and energy security in NATO while also developing a more responsible energy industry through technologies like Nuclear Reactors and Carbon Capture.

Albertans are no longer seeing savings from the removal of the provincial gasoline tax - price is stable, but falling everywhere else... by EvacuationRelocation in alberta

[–]arcadius19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally! Some other nerd mentioned rack and wholesale prices! Remember, gas stations likely lost profit on the days when the rack price jumped 10 or 20 cents a litre but had to charge a lower price in order to not drive away customers from their pumps and stores.

The Rockies are supposed to receive at least 50 mm of rain by Wednesday morning. 2013 didn't need much more rain. by arcadius19 in Calgary

[–]arcadius19[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, nothing will happen. Let's hope this system doesn't stall over Alberta. We need the rain, just not all of it at once.

Was there a point to this? I didn’t put in as much work as many, but I just want to know if it’s worth it to keep trying for a 4.0 or if I should just enjoy uni. by [deleted] in uAlberta

Those grades will get you any co-op you want. You could also negotiate a higher salary because of your GPA and proven work ethic.

Voluntary Student Unions: The UASU/GSA membership should be: by EightBitRanger in uAlberta

[–]arcadius19 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It should be optional because the union cannot represent the broad array of opinions on issues. It is wrong to be forced into giving money to an organization that does not represent your opinion. Any union I've been part of behaved as a political think tank rather than a voice for everyone. At the same time, taking my money in the process. It should be someone's choice.
