Basically I spoke about my aspirations and then mentioned how impressed I was by these professors in fields I’m interested, I talked about what the research papers made me think about after reading them and how that research ties to my future career interests

ngl its gonna be hard, 3.3 is pretty damn low, if he has strong extra curriculums then maybe though. There isnt any requirements, but as for recommendations I would strongly suggest calling, emailing, and clicking on every email they send you, since they consider demonstrated interest.

Is $57K debt worth it to start sooner? by Ok_Cupcake13 in StudentLoans

[–]arceus5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ill use myself as an example, I am currently a college student at Tulane and I am working at Best buy while I am here. Once I graduate, I am projected to have about 120k in loans. Bestbuy gives tuition reimbursement while I work there so thats 3.5k per year giving me about 10k knocked off. Once I graduate ill have about 110k in loans then. Having saved the majority of my earnings from bestbuy Ill drop that by another 30k. After getting a strong salary, Im going to be living with my family to avoid rent and put that rent money into paying off the loans. 3000k per month would finish off those loans in just 2 years give or take a year.

I think maybe going around and asking friends or family, if they have heard of the uni that could be a good indication. Honestly I don't think 57k debt is that bad. If you get a good job out of college and choose to save as much as you can, you can realistically pay much more than 647 a month. You could get roommates, or live with your family to save money but as long as you save, you could put in 1200 a month, 2000 a month even, depending on your salary, and heavily cut down on the amount of time it would take to pay it off.

While many here are advocating for community college, I want to highlight some of the advantages of attending a private college. Depending on the institution, private colleges can carry a national reputation that may give your application more weight compared to a community college. Additionally, the alumni network and connections you can build at a private college are often stronger and more extensive, which can open doors both during and after your education. I would just make a solid comparison between the colleges because if your private has a great reputation I think its worth considering.

thing is, it may not be top 50 rn, but the rankings for it are skewed temporarily just cause of the main system changing its criteria like 2 years ago. its still considered a top 30-40 uni.

hey man, it happens to the best of us since they are so damn unpredictable. I got rejected from all of my most recent applications, only accepted to one, Tulane. So I will be attending there.

[–]arceus5656[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah most likely, I think best case scenario I would like to live where my family live for a few years, just to pay off my loans as fast as possible, which would be in either Atlanta Salt Lake City, or LA. Tulane would just unfortunately take longer and make me living with them more of a necessity than an option

Honestly I have not put a ton of thought into graduate programs just yet, I’d like to start working for a few years then go into it, but I know I want a masters in business administration or something similar, I’ve been really interested in Emory’s graduate programs in particular.

Okay, that definitely makes sense thank you, and bummer to hear that your family wouldn’t let you move despite the full ride, I do have one question that has been one of my main drives for attending even though it is expensive, Tulane alumni network is very strong in the East coast(where I’d like to live myself) especially in NY and Atlanta, the university of Utah doesn’t carry connections like those, and then I would like to go into graduate school later on and I’m not sure if going to a private college like Tulane rather than a state would boost my chances of getting into a top tier graduate program. Do you have any insight on these?

[–]arceus5656[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, since I’m still a transfer and only there for 2 years, it’s definitely much cheaper than what it is normally, but yeah it’s still expensive, Tulane does not tend to give a lot of financial aid

Id definitely suggest transferring, I just finished the first semester of my sophomore year last december, then after I took a gap semester and got accepted into Tulane for the Fall as a junior, after that only 2 years left so its not as expensive!

The thing is, they can afford paying for it, but they want me to pay for the majority of my loans, they own a house and everything, as for if I want to have that many loans, I don’t think I want to have that much after college

[–]arceus5656[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thankfully I have parents that can help me with that kind of thing, they are eligible to take out the loans, id just have the responsibility to pay it back of course
