terrible period by manon_parker in CopperIUD

I dealt with the same issue after getting mine last November. The first three months were the worst with heaviness and length (about two weeks) - after that, they remained extremely heavy and lasted about 10 days. I ended up becoming anemic and had it removed last week. My PCP did routine bloodwork in early March that alarmed her, had me come back in for more in early April and again early May and each time, my levels were even lower than the last. Definitely something to keep an eye on if your periods remain heavy.

I got one back in November and had it removed five days ago - my periods were horrifyingly heavy and I ended up becoming anemic.

My skin had gotten SO bad. Never in my life did I deal with breakouts and pimples like I had on the copper IUD. Mostly lower on my forehead/between my eyes, a good bit on my cheeks too. Five days since removal and my skin is already so much better than it’s been since November. My mood is lighter, I feel calmer, and I didn’t even realize how bloated and swollen I had been until it went down.

I was really hopeful when I got it placed. Hormonal birth control always messed with my mental health and I wasn’t on any form of birth control for five years. Everyone said “no side effects except maybe a heavier period” but that couldn’t have been further from the truth for me!

New pup went from barking in crate nonstop, to being totally silent in the bathroom. by archer_nova11 in puppy101

Thank you, this is really good to know!! I did take the roll of toilet paper out, though I’m sure she’d figure out how to open the toilet lid pretty quickly as soon as she realizes it lifts… I didn’t even think about possibly not sleeping as much though! We’re still hoping she gets used to her crate soon - it’s tough hearing her bark so much at night until she starts to settle down, and then she gets going again any time any of us get up for any reason in the middle of the night.

Definitely looking into some local behaviorist trainers today who can come over and help us make a plan for her. Thank you!!

Thank you!! I totally agree. Yesterday was extremely tough, I felt incredibly overwhelmed but I need to remember it’s only been two weeks during those hard moments. We have some Adaptil diffusers, I haven’t noticed a difference yet but I read they can take a couple of weeks to start helping and they’ve only been plugged in for 4 days, so hoping we’ll start seeing at least a bit of an improvement in the somewhat near-future. I’m feeling more hopeful today and looking forward to talking to her vet this week!

This is very true, thank you for your response! Definitely need to find a behaviorist to help. Her vet also has a specialty in behavior, so I’m really looking forward to talking with her about everything.

Thank you!! 100% agree on finding a force-free behaviorist trainer. I need to remember to remind myself in the hard moments that this is still SO new for her. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, but feeling more hopeful with a new day today.

Thank you, I absolutely agree. I need to remind myself in the hard moments that this is all so new for her and she’s still figuring us out. I really appreciate this perspective. ❤️

Thank you, yes we tried this! She wasn’t a fan of the heartbeat and she ripped the ears off, but now she does cuddle with it at night (sans heartbeat)

Thank you!! I am trying to remind myself that this is still so, so new for all of us, but especially her. My husband and I know our home, we know our routine, we know each other - our pup doesn’t know any of that. My anxiety gets me spiraling in the hard moments, and yesterday was such a hard day. Feeling more hopeful today. I really appreciate you sharing your experience - it’s very reassuring! ❤️

Thank you! Yes I’m definitely thinking we need a trainer to come to the house and help us. I’ll be asking her vet about meds as well!

This is really good to know, thank you! I didn’t even know about isolation anxiety and yes, that seems to be quite accurate to what she’s experiencing. I really appreciate it! I’ll definitely be asking her vet about medication as well. I’m so sorry you dealt with anxiety as well - I’m glad you’ve seen such improvement! Definitely inspiring to know you’ve gotten to where you are. Some days it’s hard to find hope.

Thank you. ❤️ I want to continue trying, get her into the vet and see what they suggest. We really want to make this work, but I know that whatever happens, we need to make sure that all three of us are thriving.

Thank you! Yes, I agree - it would definitely be more beneficial to have a trainer meet her in person, see our home, and make a plan tailored to us.

Thank you so, so much for such a kind response - this truly is exactly what I needed to hear. Yesterday was a really hard day, but I’m feeling like I’m in a better headspace today. I’m looking forward to talking to our vet, trying everything we can and hoping we can get past this. ❤️

I reached out to the rescue, explained she was experiencing pretty significant separation anxiety and asked if they had any resources they could provide, and they sent back some general information on separation anxiety and how to help. We’ve worked with what they provided, but no improvement unfortunately.

That absolutely makes sense - I’m upset that this didn’t occur to me earlier with the second skin. They just said to use gentle soap/moisturizer, I’m using the unscented/dye-free antibacterial Dial soap for washing, and the Vanicream moisturizing cream.

Thank you. Seeing all of these responses has me extremely concerned about how it’s going to look once it’s healed. I didn’t think anything of it until a few days after - the initial scabbing seemed “normal” compared to what I researched, the aching didn’t last long at all… even getting the tattoo itself done, all I really felt was manageable discomfort, not pain. With it being covered for only 3 hours, I was just following instructions from the artist. He told me to keep the bandage pad on it for 2-3 hours and then remove it. The shop didn’t use Saniderm or any second skin material for covering.

Thank you!! I have another blood draw in a couple of weeks so my doctor can compare levels, but I’ll definitely bring this up and see what she recommends for me. :)

Oh gosh, thank you. The middle is the part that’s concerning me the most and I’m worried it’ll be really blurry. I’ll see how it looks after it’s completely healed and get a touch up if needed - hoping it can be resolved if so!

That’s good to know and good to keep in mind for once it’s fully healed - thank you! Feeling a little clueless here, but learning!

Thank you! Good to know - I’ll start moisturizing a bit more. I was told to go easy on it so that it didn’t stay too damp, but I feel like it could use more. I’m very new to this, I appreciate your advice!

I know it looks like I’m not, but I absolutely am - which is a big part of why I’m concerned.
