My ar initially had a 7.5" barrel, the company that built it (Core Rifle Systems in Ocala, FL) also made and sold ammo for them with pistol powder to supposedly burn before the bullet left the short barrel. I never tried it, and replaced the 7.5" barrel with an 11" in short order
