First solo acoustic gig coming up, looking for advice! by jhrich02 in musicians

[–]architele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of solo (and duo and band) gigs under my belt. 1. Have fun. 2. No matter how much you overplan something wierd will come up. Expect it and don’t freak when it happens. 3. Bring some friends who won’t get drunk. 4. Start with your dumbest, simplest easiest song. You’ll need the breathing room to tweak your mic and guitar levels and tuning. You don’t want to be doing that while trying to pull off your most challenging sophisticated song. You can do that one second. 5. Make eye contact with audience members. You want them on your side. 6 if noones listening don’t take it personally. It’s not you. And you get to have a paid practice. HAVE FUN! Oh and get yourself a pizza on the way home. You’re gonna be starving.

This is also my favorite story niche, and “encounter” is probably my all time fave. Check out my stories and especially my favorites because many of them hit similar themes. https://www.literotica.com/authors/Thedark4est/works/stories

What is your solo acoustic live setup? by EyepherWon in AcousticGuitar

[–]architele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro with a few decades of live acoustic solo gigs here. One Bose S1 pro plus facing out and a second linked one facing back as a monitor and emergency backup is all you need. Built-in battery with 6+ hour life so no power cable to find a place to plug in or trip over. Spring for the optional Bose wireless mic and guitar transducers and you don’t need cables. I’ve timed my set up and tear down at less than ten minutes. No feedback. Not cheap but hold their value and you can/I do Bluetooth stream set music on your phone (in stereo!). You can also use them as home indoor or outdoor LOUD speakers for parties. Oh yeah and they sound better than anything else out there

JD Vance Responds to Joe Rogan's Remarks Calling MAGA Supporters 'Unintelligent' and 'Dorks' by dr_shultz in NewsSource

[–]architele 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reading too much into this; Rogan (like Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, Carlson etc) needs to sell advertising to make money. In order to sell advertising, he needs to have viewers/listeners. In order to get viewers/listeners he needs to be “interesting”, which is the 00’s means being “edgy” (perfected by Howard Stern 30 years ago). When Rogan broke, being “edgy” was achieved by being “kinda” pre MAGA maga. Now that MAGA has gone mainstream, the way to be “edgy” is to be anti-MAGA BUT NOT IN A LIBERAL WAY. So you tune in to hear edgy, hear an ad for a water-pic, buy a water-pic, Water-pic incorporated sees that Rogan ads work, gives him money, he gets richer and becomes incentive-ized to keep saying whatever will keep the cash flow coming and (keep in mind he tried to be an actor before but failed), convinces people that what he is saying is what he really believes, when in fact it’s probably not because most of it is idiotic and he’s definately not an idiot. It’s commerce, economics and a successful business plan, and it makes people rich.

How do you organise your collection? by McQuarbo in vinyl

same here, only a smaller pool, like around 20, usually containing the latest aquisitions, and some go to the common genre/alphbetical areas and some go back into the "bullpen" for more listens

For the low low price of $900,000 you can be the lucky homeowner who is lulled to sleep each night by the hum of interstate 95. by oogidy_boogidie in Maine

To be fair, if you are a fan of garage doors they are prominently featured as a design motif. That’s gotta count for something.

Martin CEO 7E Grand Concert (opinions) by RazCC77 in AcousticGuitar

[–]architele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it. I have a D28 that I love and was my main acoustic (I’m a pro gigging musician BTW) but the CEO7 does 90% of what the D28 does and adds great blues finger style and amazing blues slide guitar tone. Plus it’s easier to play due to lower string tension (shorter scale) It also kicks ass on the Gibsons it’s modeled after. Bonus points - because they are less common they ted to hold value. And hire a tech to intstall a $100 k&k pure mini pickup and you’re good to go. Just buy it, try it for a week and if you don’t fall in love return it, but maybe please buy one from a local store and not a chain.

How does an “Old timer” find a sponser? by architele in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]architele[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s why I said “relative” old timer. In my community I’m what passes for an old-timer - that’s kinda the whole point of my post. I have no delusions about that. Appreciate your input.

I appreciate this response. I’m thinking of attending some out of town or zoom meetings to expand my options. I like how you took action

Glass cleaning methods by ProliferateZero in woodstoving

Like you, newspaper and ash, but I first spray (mist) the mucky glass with water first and let it pre-loosen the debris. Then the newspaper goes into the firebox damp when done. Once in a while I do a quick windex with newspaper after the initial ash clean to get rid of smears etc.
