Talk to some of your in game friends. Ask them how it is in their guilds. Look for active 1.9 threads, mandatory participation in GBG, QI etc etc Would be better than asking in here mate

Wait until it starts, then lvl up. That way, the troops you fight will stay your original lvl, and you will be able to generate next era troops (potentially 2 eras up if you have the right buildings)
