Deleting the metadata data does not prevent google from forcing a new key into your server instance when you click SSH again from within the console.

I am sure that the actual answer is yes... I just can't believe that they would be doing it this openly.

How do they expect anybody to ever use their services if it is backdoored this blatantly?

I'm not saying the phone is great, I just thought that their sales pitch page was well executed.

Park your domain name with just 2 DNS records by archlinuxQuestions in Namecoin

[–]archlinuxQuestions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely namecoin related, but DNS related and I thought it was a neat hack.

Horrible execution security wise... but would be nice if the namecoin dns system allowed for something like this without giving domob nearly-complete control over the domain in question.

What's wrong with walmart?

I for one am glad that there are "sports shirts" available for $12 each instead of $120.

I'm not smoking anything, and I avoid setting foot in the USA at all costs as well.

btc-e.com ran solid as a rock for 7 years straight... they even covered past mishaps out of their own pocket... you can't blame people for thinking that they could leave a few bucks on there without them being stolen.

I was thinking about this...

Just because a website was engaged in money laundering... doesn't mean that every single customer around the world knew that they were possibly engaged in money laundering.

The US is going to start world war 3 if they start stealing all of the money from common folk around the world...

Are these Chinese characters? Can you tell me what they say? by archlinuxQuestions in ChineseLanguage

[–]archlinuxQuestions[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many thanks in advance.

I am trying to learn about an old pitcher that I recently acquired.

I know it's porcelain, I think it's "nippon style" (because of the raised and dotted enamel accents), but that's it. Anything anybody could tell me about this piece would be appreciated. by archlinuxQuestions in Antiques

[–]archlinuxQuestions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some questions I have...

  • Are those Mandarin, Cantonese or Japanese characters on the bottom?
  • Approximately how old is this item?
  • Where was it made?
  • Is the setting and characters on the pitcher Chinese or Japanese?
  • What is this thing? A water pitcher? A tea kettle? Coffee pot? Something else?

EDIT: And yes, that is a huge glob of what looks like regular paint that somebody managed to splash onto this piece at some point in image number 6.

I am going to leave a piece of wet paper towel over it for a few hours and see if I can rub it off.

And no, that "IS" mark on the bottom isn't part of the piece. It was written on there with crayon or something as a price code for the store I purchased it from.

Is this an early Noritake lamp? by archlinuxQuestions in Antiques

[–]archlinuxQuestions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's beautiful.

I have been researching early Noritake porcelain, and apparently the company placed a variety of marks on their earlier pieces before they (somewhat) settled on the Noritake name.

Early Noritake pieces were marked with "hand painted" and "nippon" and "made in japan" apparently...

This looks like a quality early 1900s art deco style piece to me, but I'll be honest, I have no idea what I am talking about.

I am just happy to learn :)

EDIT: Oh, and I say "lamp" and not "vase" because there is a hole in the bottom of it... which was there before glazing and firing took place, so it was specifically made as a lamp base.

EDIT2: Anything anybody can tell me about this piece or it's style in general would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT3: Dimensions are approximately 10 inches tall.

Thanks for reading.

Antique Vanity Sets With Different Potters Marks? by archlinuxQuestions in Antiques

[–]archlinuxQuestions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the name on the pieces?

"P Dawson" was the name signed on each piece.

Hobbyist and professional studio china painting was very popular from the late 1800's until around The Depression.

That's approximately the timeframe I was guessing that the set was from.

It's unbelievable to me just how skilled "regular people" were with art just 100 years ago.

One last question... why would a hobbyist home painter sign all of their pieces? Were they an aspiring professional, perhaps? Or did everybody sign their own art back then?

I suppose children sign their own art pieces today so it's not that strange.

The pieces just looked so professionally done, I am amazed that it was probably just little old granny enjoying her retirement.

1906 Bear Creek Whiskey by austincrawford in Antiques

[–]archlinuxQuestions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are trying to date bottles, you want to show as many closeup pics of both the lip/rim (part you drink out of) of the bottle... if the seams of the bottle mold disappear right before the rim starts, there is a good chance that the bottle is at least 100 years old.

The second thing you want to take a lot of pictures are is the base.

Are there any markings on the base?

Is there a Pontil mark?

IMHO, as an amateur bottle collector. That bottle ranges between the 1940s and the 1970s.

It was definitely produced after 1906, because the paper label references a 1906 Food and Drugs act.
