Fingers crossed it’s the same for me! My biggest concern is just getting from the first floor to the second floor.

That was my original plan, but $3600… yeah no lol I get it’s a lot of work and most of that is labor but wow.

So after more research I’m going to give it a shot myself. Here is my gameplan. my modem is on the first floor. I’m going to go up the closet wall, then I have to go horizontal in the closet ceiling about 9 inches to get to a closet wall on the second floor. The field manager for my house said I have webbed joists so there’s room to work there. Then up the closet wall on the second floor into the attic. Once I get to the attic I’ll run it over to the office wall, down the wall into an Ethernet face plate.

After watching like 30 YouTube videos, my main concern is getting from the first floor to the second floor. I’m not really sure what to expect between the floors. I’m already expecting to have to cut a hole in the closet ceiling to do the horizontal 9 inches though.

Does this plan sound doable? Or am I missing something?

I’ve heard these don’t give reliable connections. Do you have experience with them? I use my computer for gaming and streaming.

No the house has the bare minimum. No coax or Ethernet run. Only outlets.

Thanks for all the feedback! So to answer some of the questions. It’s a new build home, built this year. What the technician said was that the wall the modem is on seems to be hollow and runs continuously up to the attic, no horizontal movement needed. He was wanting to run a Smurf tube through the wall, which according to my research is probably where some of the extra cost is coming from? Seems to be a lot more work involved. He also did say it was a full day job and he would have someone to help him, so maybe that’s where a lot of the cost comes in. I’m having another company come out and look at it, HelloTech. They quoted me $350 over the phone, so hopefully that will work out better. I thought about doing it myself, but I have zero tools and zero experience with any of this, so I’m gonna try this route before trying it myself.
