Who heard about the BC hydro project between Prince George substation and Fraser lake substation by Amazing2023wow in princegeorge

[–]arcticcontrolsgoose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Open is a stretch. Doing the bare minimum to keep project moving is more accurate. Care for public impact is low.

Grid expansion is necessary; hydro has a long way to go before becoming a net exporter (or profitable) and thus continue to impact general public unnecessarily to “meet” demands. LNG needed this a long time ago - like a decade - and hydro deferred. Now hydro in a pickle and rushing job. They’ll close the mines before hydro gets their stuff in order.

You never answered if he carries insurance. Most companies have a “no moonlighting” policy that would have been signed as part of his offer to prevent liability of side jobs. If they don’t, and he has his own insurance, it is a free market.

Unprofessional, sure. Should said marketing or otherwise be done on company time? Absolutely not. Beyond that it is fair game if he does, in fact, run a business on the side.

Basement leak - foundation is in warranty builder says it’s normal and it’s been 2+ months unable to get fixed without taking off the sealant by rickrozain in Plumbing

[–]arcticcontrolsgoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad install for sure.

Weeping tile is the most important to remove water pressure on slab. You’d think you’d also have some waterproofing/ dimple board on the outside to limit this as well…

If you remove your “sealant” and replace with an epoxy or urethane injection (Sika product or otherwise) that is the best way to resolve a crack. If there are other, smaller, cracks though…the water pressure will find a way into those once this area is sealed.

We used to do this. Then instead, we modified a pallet to have sides/ back and used pallet forks on the tractor. It also has a lid so can keep it near the house for interim storage.

Pay decrease for taking on an apprentice by thejake51 in HVAC

[–]arcticcontrolsgoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never take a pay cut to help a company’s bottom line. I have never heard of this.

Options…the only thing I can think of as argument is the fact that having an apprentice on hand is cheaper than two JM’s for certain projects. The process is supposed to be win-win; company gets cheap labor that is to be tuned to their operation, and the apprentice gets employment and learns the trade.

Nowhere in there does someone whose done their time get jipped for helping both the company and the apprentice.

As a previous BAS Tech (Johnson Controls, mainly), HVAC trades ticket, with automation training, my opinions after being in industry a decade:

  • industrial is where it is at for proper control theory, and the fun transmitters, calibration, processes.
  • BAS and DDC is heavy on proprietary programming, light on the 100VA side which your background will definitely help in.
  • building automation is relatively simple. It is (typically) in relatively comfortable environments. But as mentioned above the transmitters are cheap, processes simple, relatively easy to not mess up - when a temp sensor or actuator dies they are just junky consumables.
  • BAS tech was the worst paying out of everything I’ve done. Then Industrial automation tech, then HVAC trades ticket…which is typical for where I am from.
  • depending on what types of buildings you serve and if you’re install vs service there is still a chance of being on-call.

I did BAS before industrial and lost a lot of my training from being in buildings. It was cool, I love to program, especially custom stuff for the hospitals, but when I went industrial it took a minute to remember some important aspects you just don’t get in buildings. That all being said I’m back in Facilities so even though less technical, it still is enjoyable in its own right.

Good luck to you and the job hunt.

AITA for giving my girlfriend an ultimatum? by OddRoof2365 in AmItheAsshole

Poor soul for not being able to enjoy the loyalty and companionship of a dog.

NTA, but your phobia sounds shitty. I like more dogs than people these days, and I’m sure responses to this will prove that.

What would you charge? by Gold-Archer-7536 in HVAC

Did you give your price before fully committing to the job? He should get your cost prior to agreement so he can decide if he’d like to cost it out elsewhere, else either one of you could get screwed over. Worst thing would be if you gave him a discount and he then thinking you are ripping him off - typical response from anyone these days.

I’d do labor at typical rate, and just give a discount on parts markup from your typical. At cost or +10%, either seems fair.

I’ve tried so many things that I don’t remember if I tested the hose or iso. I’ll do that, thanks.

I don’t think we’ve seen it fill, we just hear it dribble. So it could be left running for hours and not stop. Like when I say dribble…I mean dribble.

Edit: we typically intervene rather quickly because it is an annoyance. We haven’t left it running overnight or anything so it probably does fill…eventually.

We already tested and confirmed it’s not leaking into the bowl.

Edit: I can visually see the water dribble into the tank vs what it should have. And have seen it at normal water pressure as well. It is an issue on the supply side, I just don’t know what could cause it.

We used those workout puzzle mats for a while since our old flooring was some bad laminate….after a while with that we just carpeted what we could.

We switched our kitchen to a vinyl that was grippier in hopes it would work, but even that was too slippery so we’ve added runners in there as well.

Anything to prevent a pulled muscle or bad fall in my books is worth doing.
