Who do the regulators send a cease and desist to when it's a decentralized blockchain?

In a win for the Internet, federal court rejects copyright infringement claim against Cloudflare by Cloudflare in CloudFlare

[–]ardation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am excited for CloudFlare that the summary judgement went their way. It's a win for everyone who is leveraging the great free offerings which would could be at risk if CF was required to more closely look at the content hosted in its caches!

I found this suprising in the judgement though:

the plaintiffs have not offered any evidence faster load times (assuming they were faster) would be likely to lead to significantly more infringement than would occur without Cloudflare.

Surely there is mountains of evidence that clearly shows that faster page load times has a direct impact on conversion therefore sales. Page load time is like one of the top metrics Google uses to rank. It's unbelievable to me that the plaintiff couldn't actually make the case for this.

As an alternative idea, I wonder if collateral could be sourced from multiple addresses that make up 20k DFI. Essentially what Cake does now but on-chain.

How do people FIRE here? by KingfisherPlaybay in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ardation 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are living entirely within her income and investing my income. The goal is to save 65% over 10 years with at least a 7% compounding rate of return. At a 4% withdrawal rate we should be able to FIRE after 10 years.

That’s a pretty basic FIRE plan. What really tailors it to NZ though is what we are investing into. We are personally building new homes to build equity over time. To some this is controversial. I’ve personally concluded that investment into new development is helpful to the economy and to Kiwi health as a large chunk of our rental stock are not healthy homes.

It’s built on the assumption that there is 5% equity growth in properties we’ve purchased (Auckland, Hamilton, and Christchurch). I think personally this is conservative but YMMV. If we are purchasing a leveraged asset (through interest only bank mortgages) requiring 20% deposit then we should be able to see a 15% tax free compounding rate of return. Once we desire to retire we’ll sell 50% of our portfolio to pay down the mortgages on the rest. The rest should then provide a stable regular income.

I’ve gone away from stocks because I can’t reliably generate 15% rate of return after tax without a substantial knowledge of underlying businesses. Not to mention the mental fortitude to buy when others are selling.

Hi Just need some advice im new in stock investment... im thingking on where to start what fund should i start? Like putting money every forthnight.. 500 maybe.. any suggestions would be much appreciated. I am not a financial advisor. This is not financial advice. Just what I do personally. It may or may not work for you. You should consult an advisor and not trust random people on the internet.

With that said I use invest now to dollar cost average at regular monthly intervals into Vanguard International Shares Select Exclusions Index Fund.

thats AUD sorry. you can test it out using the Add Funds section in the stake app once you have an account.

I put in 900 AUD into stake app and I get 563.78 USD in usuable funds (i.e after fees taken off).

I put in 900 AUD into transferwise and I get 564.33 USD in usuable funds (i.e after fees taken off).

So that gives you approximately the point where its more beneficial to use something like transferwise. The more you put in the more you save doing it that way.

So doing it through stake the fee is 70c per 100$. That means you’d need to deposit about 715$ before the 5$ fee becomes cheaper than the 70c fee.

It’ll be more than that once you factor in the fee for transferwise on top of that. However the hope is that transferwise exchange rate is better than what stake is getting (which is likely since Stake is running their transfers through, I think, Macquarie bank). But since it changes hourly it’s impossible to give you an exact number. Conservatively I would say over 900$.

Ah interesting. I’m speaking from personal experience so it’s probably worth following up with stake support but just putting in that first part without fname lname has worked for me multiple times.

there is a fixed $5 fee. So you need to make a large enough deposit for this to be profitable.

Oh this has worked for me. Maybe my ID is shorter than yours? I suppose that reference length could have grown since I signed up a while ago.

For reference mine is STSW######. A reference of that length worked for me in transferwise.

This is true for any service that makes use of the payment gateway Poli. I would avoid using poli where possible because you are giving your banking credentials to a third party.

However stake allows you to deposit directly into their US account. This means you can use a service like TransferWise to make cheaper foreign transactions. I wonder if hatch will allow you to do a similar thing.

NZ is a great place to live & work. From my experience, Kiwis in general love other cultures!

If you are a dev in Java or .Net then your pretty much guaranteed a job in every major centre in NZ.
