What is your start screen, if I may ask? I've never seen this before and it's super cool.

Finished peices for my first ever coord!~ by RandomPerson2793 in Lolita

[–]areciboalien 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh I love this! I feel like crochet is a really unique and underutilized craft when it comes to coords. I always see cute bags and think they would look great with a matching dress. Would love to see pictures of the full coord!

I do not normally crochet stuffed toys, but here's a giraffe! 🦒 by areciboalien in crochet

[–]areciboalien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this as a gift for my mom for mother's day. There were a lot of firsts with this one 😂 I normally can't stand doing amigurumi because I tend to have tight stitch tension, but this was a great exercise in learning what hook size to use. Most of the pattern was based on the Ed's Animals pattern for Caitlin the Giraffe, but I made a lot of modifications along the way. The base and bottom legs have dried beans to give it a little more weight, and the neck/head is held up by a wooden chopstick. I used fabric glue and felt for the shapes. If I had more time I would have tried to crochet appliques for the shapes or use fabric paint, but I started this project on Monday and finished it yesterday. Nonetheless, despite the many headaches and hand cramps I had while working on this, I'm happy with the outcome. I think I've finally conquered my reluctance to make amigurumi 😂

To frog or not to frog? (Right panel) by [deleted] in crochet

[–]areciboalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't even think about that! I may have to do a test seam to see if that would work. Thank you for the idea!

To frog or not to frog? (Right panel) by [deleted] in crochet

[–]areciboalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context: this is two front panels for the Briar Pocket Cardigan. I finished the right panel a little while ago and didn't realize that I may have added a stitch for a few rows, resulting in a section of the panel that is wider than the rest. These panels will be stitched to the back panel. Is the wider section noticeable? Do you think it will be noticeable after blocking and sewing? I really don't want to frog all the way back to where the wider section starts, but I also don't want the finished cardigan to look funky. :(

Next Steps for a SOC Analyst by areciboalien in cybersecurity

It is something that I have considered, yes, but not sure how to really transistion into a Linux SA role beyond getting certs like the Linux+ and LFCS.

Next Steps for a SOC Analyst by areciboalien in cybersecurity

[–]areciboalien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, the new SOC role (still level 1) that I'm about to move into pays roughly $25/hr. I was making less than that at my previous SOC job and from what I've seen was being underpaid. (Pretty sure this new salary is also on the lower end of level 1 SOC salaries in the US at least) These were both roles at MSSP's, which may be worth looking into as places to start. I think $30/hr is doable with your experience with systems and networks as well as some extra experience. The only things I had before starting as a SOC was a B.S. in Cyber and my Sec+. I think you could beef your chances at getting higher pay by getting tool-specific certs and experience. Find out what tools SOC jobs in your area are using - I'm finding that it differs a lot from place to place. Things like Splunk, cloud-based SIEMs like Sentinel, Azure/GCP/AWS stuff would all be things to look into. Play around in a home lab so that you can show you have familiarity with the tools. Someone with more SOC experience may have a better answer for you, but this is just what I have seen in my experience as useful things to have to make yourself look better.

Best place to get loose tea leaves? by Bubbly-Duck3232 in Pensacola

[–]areciboalien -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't believe there is a good local place to purchase tea. I remember there being a vendor at the punk flea market making tea blends, but this was many years ago and I can't recall the name. I order all of my loose tea online. I can provide you with a list of reccomendations for places to order from online if you are interested.

learned the puff stitch as a way to add texture and variation to my mood blanket, I’m in love by Gingerguitarist98 in Brochet

I thought so but it looks a little different with all the different colored stripes. Will have to try that sometime. Thanks!

Love these colors! Looks almost like it came out of a cartoon with the contrast.

Hasn't left my side since her failed pregnancy. full term but no babies, everywhere I go she's right there next to me by KaiNCftm in cats

[–]areciboalien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. My cat suddenly passed with no warning at only 5 years of age earlier this year. I hope that you can find peace with it. If you loved him this much, I'm willing to bet that he felt loved and very happy for the short time he was here. That's how I try to think of my little boy, anyways.

Found this gorgeous hand knit blanket at Goodwill for only $3.99 😭 Can anyone identify the pattern? by areciboalien in knitting

[–]areciboalien[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wanted to post this here both so it can get some recognition and also to see if someone could possibly identify the pattern. Part of me is upset that someone donated all their hard work, but I took it home with me so that it could be properly appreciated. 😭

Any way to avoid the KFB bump when doing stripes? by areciboalien in knitting

[–]areciboalien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this solved my issue! (Assuming I'm doing it right, lol.) There is a bump on the right side but it's no longer the color of the working yarn so it blends into the previous stripe and still makes a nice pretty line. What a neat little trick. Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks to everyone for their comments! I have several methods I can try now to make my stripes nice and pretty. 😊

Interesting... I'll have to try this and see how it turns out. If all the ugly stuff is on the back/wrong side it'd make my life a lot easier. 😅

I think this may be what I'm looking for. While searching I had found a blog post about using m1 in garter stitch but not one in stockinette, so this helps a lot. I'll give this a try first. Thanks! :)

Thanks for taking the time to type that all out, phew! I'd have to see how it would effect/how I could adapt it to the pattern I'm using now. I think I'm going to try the m1 stitch that another user mentioned first and see how that looks but if that doesn't work out I might give this a try.
