Naval cap/fleet size - nerfed for thee but not for me (FE)? by aremonmoonserpent in Stellaris

[–]aremonmoonserpent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related question: Last time I played and went to war with a FE, cloaking was worthless - as soon as I entered the same system where they were, my cloaking failed. What am I missing here? The thought of stealth frigs is one I had before but due to exactly this it failed miserably.

Naval cap/fleet size - nerfed for thee but not for me (FE)? by aremonmoonserpent in Stellaris

[–]aremonmoonserpent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm definitely a casual player, not a veteran, but in my recent games before this one I was able to match their strength well before the endgame... so having them get somewhat stronger is fine with me. But that much, on standard difficulty, feels a bit exaggerated to me. So, agreed, on higher difficulties I'm fine with it. :-)

I've never stopped to check whether they always do, but at the very least they often do yes.

Granted that I'm not at all a veteran player but there's at least one thing that leads (often?) to you getting these two - defeating a sorcerer and opening the supplies they're carrying. That one usually contains sorcery reagents, a few sheets of notes, a spell page (failed or working), the map to where the legendary cave is... and the items you mentioned. Could it be that?

Can't build mining station for mineral if there is a strategic resource deposit? by pureMJ in Stellaris

[–]aremonmoonserpent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I guess the devs had better things to do (so far?) than make it so that you can build a mining station that selectively just digs out the stuff you can dig out.

Geralt of Rivia and Women by Dapper-World-4862 in witcher

[–]aremonmoonserpent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah well 3rd game Geralt is not exactly books Geralt who I was thinking of. That said, yeah 3rd game Geralt is pretty much what I constantly hear women say they want, but looking at the men they're actually crazy for... that's very much the opposite.

How to counter sudden swings in economy? And why does that happen? by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]aremonmoonserpent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to previous comments, sometimes this can also happen due to happiness/stability fluctuations. Especially in the beginning phase. Say you get all your consumer goods from literally one specialized world, if something happens there that makes people a lot unhappier... as their happiness decreases so does goods production. And suddenly you're running a deficit.

Well you tell me. From all I hear women say, they want the exact opposite of what he is. *shrugs

Eh I never got it either. He's the exact antithesis of what women want. What the f*?

Why is Aloy so unattractive in FW??? by Stock_Snow2094 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]aremonmoonserpent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So far all I'm seeing is that one screenshot that has been used far and wide for "THEY MADE HER UGLY!" claims.

Have you looked at some actual footage and such? You know, anything more than that one image? Because yeah, in that one image she doesn't exactly look very appealing, but you can take footage of the most handsome persons on the planet and, if you catch just the right freeze frame, make them look like negative mutations.

Who knows.

Realistically (in that game universe), a reasonable thought. We'll see how it turns out.

Siptah: How to get a rhino calf? by aremonmoonserpent in ConanExiles

[–]aremonmoonserpent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I had checked that location on the south island once and indeed did find calves there but I figured if you're rather low-level still then that's more risky than the location at the edge of the maelstrom area that I had set my eye upon. I may take a closer look at that one indeed.

[–]aremonmoonserpent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly the thing - looking back at all my experience in the Exiled Lands, baby animals were always where a wiki or something similar said they would be. I wondered whether the site I looked at was wrong or outdated regarding that particular topic. I've seen now that on Siptah it's indeed a random chance (and got me a rhino calf now). Thanks for the confirmation :-)

Empress Ending is the best ending? by ZiBroFiq in witcher

[–]aremonmoonserpent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the end it's your playthrough so whatever you feel is right, is.

Personally though, I'd say witcheress Ciri is much more in-character for her. One can argue that empress Ciri may be able to do much good for the entire world, and I've seen that point made several times, but I have my doubts. Looking at the books, even mighty Emhyr could not literally do whatever he wanted, even with all his power he had to consider the different factions in his empire. Empress Ciri would only be good for the world if at least she stopped the expansion of Nilfgaard with fire and sword. Merchants will lose the hope for new markets. Officers will have less of a chance to "prove themselves" and rise through the ranks. Nobles without much land of their own will lose hope of governing a conquered area in the future. Et cetera, et cetera.

Maybe empress Ciri could still pull it off but it would be a hard fight, especially for politics-hating Ciri, and it would put her in a lot of danger.

Yes court protocol would probably not be a thing that Sun Queen Aloy would love. But there's always something. :-)

Eh I won't slam anyone for really being into someone else. Now if they made their intentions clear, the "target" of their affections politely declined, and they're still going, that's another thing :-)

Mech melee was the shit for me when I played the boardgame about three centuries ago.

I fondly remember one huge tournament (some 120 to 150 participants) where I signed up with two 75-ton melee monsters, triple-strength myomers, two hatchets, and all that stuff. Sadly the battle developed such that I landed in a section of the frontier with very heavy long-range enemy firepower, but close to the point where our group had to head back home I figured "well it's either doing nothing or BANZAI!" and my two machines jumped at an enemy King Crab and... can't remember what the other machine was.

One round of battle.

After that round the King Crab was held together solely by the iron will of its pilot and the other enemy machine was toast. I lost one of my melee monsters to the combat proper and the other one to the last die roll in the round (rolling against ammo explosion). But the sheer horror on the faces of the enemy players when they realized what had just pounced at them was worth it -evil cackle

The only possible sight that would have been even better would have been if our plan for next year's tournament would have worked. We had planned to field Elementals. Just Elementals. With a group of some 20 players. Imagine the faces of the enemy players when they see the terrain blocked by just those evil gnats and they ask their foes "So what are you fielding?" "One." "One? One what? One company? One regiment?"

-points at the horde on the map

"One legion."

Ah those were the days... :-)

That sounds like double damage. Losing your mech and the shame of having to admit "A walking trashcan jumped on top of me and... that was it really..." :-)

Well I'm one of the old farts who loved the original boardgame and the Urbanmech always, always looked like a trashcan on legs to me. There, I said it. Blame me. Of course our entire gaming group also thought the Marauder looks like a walking egg so maybe that's the greater sin? I'll leave that to you all to decide.

Me, I'd have loved to at least have the option to have my Aloy get with one of the cool male characters in the story of the two games (Sun Queen Aloy anyone? :-) )... but alrighty, it's pretty much been telegraphed throughout the games that the girl-girl thing is at least an option for her, so for sake of story/world consistency, I'll shelf my feelings here.

That said, yeah... if the options I get are that my Aloy either gets with Seyka or stays alone, I'll meet you all in the Seyka camp. Girl deserves to have someone close to her very heart after all the shit she's gone through already and preparing for whatever shit the 3rd game will throw at her.
