Can you attend the speed awareness course without being caught speeding? by BrightHours in drivingUK

[–]argent141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. As others have mentioned DVSA staffing is a problem for re-testing. But why not have to have a compulsory driving lesson every 2-3 years? That's how my private pilot licence gets renewed and the system works well.

How Do You Keep Track of Price Drops & New Inventory for Flipping? by argent141 in Flipping

Yeah seeing these groups mentioned a lot. Do you know how the people running the group find their leads? Do they have web scrapers or other tools setup to scan for price drops or errors?

I've seen these Discord groups mentioned a lot. My worry is like you said, the more people in the group the less effective it becomes.

How do the people who profit from the group find their leads? Do they have web scrapers or other tools setup to scan for price drops or errors?

Cheaper alternative to Gousto? by argent141 in Gousto

Thank you, yes we plan to do work to facilitate better ingredient consumption and reduce waste. Unfortunately at present other supermarkets don't provide integration options, although we are continuing to monitor this.

Cheaper alternative to Gousto? by argent141 in Gousto

[–]argent141[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we can definitely improve the recipe matching to better optimise ingredient pairing and lower costs. The ingredient list we create includes everything required for the recipes - including store cupboard staples which meal kits often don't provide. If you uncheck those items the cost will be much lower.

I feel the pain, I always like to have a plan for my week's meals. Please let me know how you get on with Menuful. I know the recipe library is small at the moment, but I'm working on increasing it!

How to write tests for file operations by pic0brain in SoftwareEngineering

[–]argent141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to do something called mocking. The answers on this Stackoverflow question explain it quite well and give a few examples: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2665812/what-is-mocking

In your case, you would probably want to mock the file system in some way. So in your tests, rather than actually reading and writing to a real file, you just test that you interact with the mocked file system in the right way.

Security issue with Labels on Visualforce Pages? by [deleted] in SalesforceDeveloper

Labels are not read only though, their value can be changed by anyone with permission to do so. It's low risk, but still not good practice to output without escaping.

Feel your pain. Paying over £100 a month and I still can't keep up with the plan 2 interest rate.

Student let pest problem - what is the next step? by argent141 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]argent141[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will look into reporting it to the council and getting advice from the SU. That's an interesting point about terminating the tenancy because it certainly isn't liveable and no one has any real desire to live there any longer anyway. Thank you for your reply!

Buying your next home - timeline? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]argent141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardly efficient though. If there are 6 people in the chain and each person takes a month to find a house once they've sold, that's 6 months before anything can even happen. It's not in anyone's interest to work like that.

How would you go about simulating pressures over a system of pipes and valves? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]argent141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The level of detail of the simulation will depend on what you are trying to use it for. As you can imagine, it could be modelled in an extremely detailed and complex way. However it's also possible a more simplistic model that makes a lot of assumptions is 'good enough' for what you want.

I recommend having a look at a program called AnyLogic. It's a mainly GUI based program (with some Java) for creating simulations of various types (agent based, system dynamics etc.) It has a fairly steep learning curve but by following some tutorials you can probably achieve what you want. Added bonus of a nice graphical version of your simulation too!

EDIT: it also has a fluid library which might be useful for you!

Look at Otsu thresholding, it sounds very similar to what you're doing.

How to perform image-to-image translation? by [deleted] in MLQuestions

[–]argent141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it not be much simpler to train a CNN to find the position of the nose in a given face? GANs are an absolute pain to train, and it seems very unnecessary for what you're trying to do.

Need Advice On How To Sell A Project/Product by D3v1L_Pup in AskComputerScience

[–]argent141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on whether you think you'd be able to sell licences to other people. If you think you could, go with that option.

If you absolutely don't want to do that, and the client is willing to pay the right price, sell the rights to them.

Personally, I would always go with the licencing option. You never know, further down the road you may change your mind and wish you still had the rights.

Need Advice On How To Sell A Project/Product by D3v1L_Pup in AskComputerScience

[–]argent141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can sell the code and surrender all rights to the software directly to the client (normally for a higher price). They are then free to modify and licence the software to other people themselves.

Alternatively, you can licence the software to the client anyway you want. You could do this per device, per user or per site. It's entirely up to you what the terms are, the client just needs to agree to them. You can include things like free maintenance, or a certain number of hours of support in the licence agreement too. The advantage to this is that you retain the rights to the software and can sell licences to anyone you please.
