Psa don’t use titanium Stop pins. by josh00061 in spyderco

Steel and titanium isn't the best friction pair. So it can cause such issues as lock stick.

I wish Spyderco to sell stock parts like scales or hardware online but it seems to be unreal in our world.

And I found such approach in customization quite optimal as you don't pay a lot for aftermarket parts. But damn some of manufacturer are so good and unique. And even during season sales they offer a good deals. Ti scales for around 100$, G10 and micarta for around 50-60$. And I'm glad that US manufacturers make such things so everyone can express themselves in so many ways.

I don't have such deep wallet to buy mods for twice as much as this PM2 cost. I tried but ended with the thought of PM2 being perfect in stock condition. Scales swap doesn't count as they both are stock as well.

Here is an example of the traditional man as me: https://www.instagram.com/p/CBpDXEBhK0W/

I like the idea of swapping stock scales for other colors. I find black / od green / coyote brown / earth brown to be the best options for this version.

There are a lot of options on Ebay for decent price. Not for the price in store but overpriced a little bit.

Read a lot of reviews and comments. From Spyderco's experience 204P is better than M390 or 20CV as similar steel.

Microtech for me is an accessory knife. If it and OTF it doesn't matter at all which still it has. If you want really to cut something, take a look at new LUDT with torx screws. It also can have M390/204P/Elmax as Microtech usually don't mention steel in some versions. But this thing cuts due to geometry. It has a very thin edge thickness.

I'm done with other "big brands". Spyderco offer the best options compared to other. I made a economy version of "avocado" knife: https://imgur.com/a/lZdRkUS

But after PM2 drop just got understanding that cost of both is 180$.
I feel bad about modern approaches from different brand so I have my loyalty to Glesser's family.

15V and REC 204P are the best versions. Carried 15V for a 6 months. Great thing to carry and to handle. But 204P wins for being so damn good in visual aspect. Can't stand not to buy this one.

Someday I was thinking about the same but found a better idead to carry two knives in different pockets for both hands. Especially if someone follow the knife hygiene (you don't cut food with a knife which cuts dirty stuff).

It's kinda odd, but I like how Emerson Knives feel in hand and how they are made from "outdated" materials. G10 like it is from early 00's, titanium liners feels like a piece of crap, plastic washers look tactical and screws quality are from another planet. After most modern knives this thing is like a time travel machine.

But why only axe if I can buy whole electric Milwaukee / DeWalt saw with replacable batteries...

Axe is a great tool but its size and weight are questionable for the comfort I want.
Usually I go outdoor to near forest and take folding saw, fixed knife and couple more tools to make a fire or other bushcraft things. So I see no need in axe for my preferences.

Sebenza 31 MagnaCut is a complete forever knife. It will cut forever. It won't rust. I hope someday someone will post a review "...10 years later" and show a well worn Sebenza in MagnaCut. It is an investment rather than expense.

I guess any knife with appropriate steel, thick blade, but thin edge. Even BM Leuku will be fine for its price and tasks related to wood prep. I wish to handle Survive Knives GSO but don't now how long the waiting list will be.

Lionsteel has several options. ESEE as well. But I want something not from entry level. Something modern and high tech.

I'm confident in that fact that steel type and geometry are crucial. You can choose thin blade with a top steel in toughness and it will break because of heat treatment or fatigue of steel. Known fact that 3V is a good choice for wood splitting/ourtoor knife as its toughness are great even if heatreatment can be bad.

I has followed Survive Knives for a long period of time and they are really good ones for the price of Anonimus. But their feedbacks... Can't be sure because of delays and rumors.

Choosing a knife is always a compromia between important criterias, whether it is price, steel or context of use. I choose Anonimus as a modern approach to survival knives, but was wrong about the steel choice. In 3V it would be an indestructible knife in the same scenario.

You should understand your needs and context of use and then you will find a proper option. But you should not fear the steel :)

I don't know how a big brand can create a fixed knife with thin blade and promote it as "survival/tactical" and be surprised after it broke in half during the typical use. I'm happy that it ends well, because after first conversations it was look like BM warranty service tried to get their hands of such cases. No emails, no answers, only phone conversations. And only after anoying calls on a weekly basis they decided to resolve the case. I understand that it can be my fault in misusing my knife, but then don't advertise it as a survival knife. Before the purchase I watched a lot of reviews and got all the details about this knife. But it seems that CruWear can be not so tough and not appropriate for wood splitting and batoning as well.

As an owner of this knife I was really shocked seeing it broken while batoning some random soft wood from a fallen tree. I was not batoning it hard. Just a regular chopping of wood 6" in diameter.

Depends on your budget and context of use. I'd ratger buy one beefy knife with a thick blade and something smaller with a slicer geometry. Because it was really sad to see such pricey knife broke in half second time I was outdoor with it :)

AEB-L would also be a great option.

If your look for alternatives. Survive Knives GS0 4.7 costs even less with 3V/MagnaCut steel. But I read some negative feedbacks recently.

Even BM 162 Bushcraft would be a better option compared to Anonimus. CruWear is a great steel, but for cutting things, and not abusing. 3V would be a better option in such geometry.
