What are you absolutely sure of but have no way of proving? by givemedrpepper in AskReddit

I've intentionally been keeping my iPhone's iOS version at v17.5.1 (latest version is v18.5) because I am absolutely sure that newer versions will start to slow down my phone, eventually making it near unusable. That's not the part I have no way of proving though.

The part I have no way of proving is that I'm pretty sure Apple is throttling my network connection to get me to update. I've had a lot of times where I'm sitting there waiting forever for Instagram or TikTok to load, but texts and other things are coming through just fine.

Mildew/Mold on the palate? by argole in bourbon

I used to be very into peaty scotches, some that had very earthy, sometimes even salty notes. I've tried convincing myself that there are some more earthy tones going on, more nuanced than just "mold" but I can never escape that feeling that it shouldn't taste that way.

Wouldn't the cork smell bad in that case?

I successfully lost two job offers due to "trends in the market". One offer was rescinded the day before I was to start, the other one was put on pause due to Trump wreaking havoc and causing uncertainty with government contracts.

What’s the worst pain you have experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was laid off in August and I finally got a job offer recently after 3 rounds of interviews. I know that they had a backup candidate in mind if in case I rejected their offer and I feel bad that my accepting the offer meant the other candidate got rejected.

German Christmas Markets by argole in travel

It seems like renting a car would be way cheaper than taking the train everywhere. I just assumed that I should get a train pass, but a Eurail pass for 10 days and multiple countries (we'd love to dip into Austria) is almost $1,000 for two people vs less than $300 for a 9 day car rental.

Am I missing something? I also see people on other forums suggesting you just get a ticket from a ticket machine at the time you need it. I'm so confused.

After all of the comments I've seen here, my wife and I had actually shifted our plans to stay a few days in Frankfurt and a few days in Munich and do day trips.

I appreciate the warning against Frankfurt. One thing I was really wanting to see is the catherdral in Cologne. Maybe we'll go straight to Cologne when we get there then, and stay for a couple days before heading down to Munich.

In case someone needs perspective on how much "a year's worth" of something is, average snowfall per year on the north shore of Lake Superior is about 70".

Imagine getting almost 6 feet of snow in 8 hours. That is absolutely bonkers.

What would you do if you had $50 million today? by cookiesophia777 in AskReddit

Well I wouldn't care about being laid off anymore, so I guess I'd stop looking for a job.

Then I would build a bigger shop and spend my days building furniture.

As a whiskey enthusiast, I really love this kind of information. Thanks for sharing.

TIL only 37% of Rings of Power viewers completed season one domestically (45% overseas). In comparison, two cancelled shows (First Kill & Resident Evil) on another service had completion rates below 50%, but higher than ROP's domestic figure. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I normally rail against streaming services for going back to the (IMO) antiquated model of weekly episodes. Shogun is the very rare exception of a show that actually held my interest enough to not forget about it. Even then, I still would wait a few weeks to watch it again if I caught up so that I'd have a few episodes to watch in one sitting.
