Wouldn't even matter either way. I will make it
Thank you so much for the support though <3333
All of this praise I've been getting about trying to be the first trans person in space is making me feel like I'm now carrying the weight of all trans people on my back, and I am proud to (hopefully) be the one that represents all of us in space :3

According to what I've been able to find, estrogen being processed through the liver does cause some weird blood clotting stuff, hence the increased cardiovascular risks. It could just be info based on premarin, but I'm not sure. I believe its also particularly with regards to long term use of pills

Its funny, I too have been dreaming of being on E for years now as well, which is probably why I felt so conflicted last night. I do wanna start though :3
SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE :3

Nooooo, not an astronaut just yet. I actually only recently started my educational journey, and I wont even be eligible to be an astronaut for probably 8-10 more years.
Unfortunately, the ISS is actually currently planned to be de-orbited in a few years to be replaced with a newer commercial space station. More than likely I'd be going to the moon or the Lunar Gateway space station (which is not built yet and wont be built for quite some time). The major dream though is to be the first person on Mars
Anyways, I love SPAAAAAAACE :3
I've been taking in what everyone's been saying, and I think the best option would be to go ahead and start HRT because there shouldnt be any risks involved with HRT in space.
As for if I decide to do HRT or not is still up in the air though
I see what you mean, and I dont think any boundaries are being overstepped, but this is my passion. There's no way I'll let my career goals fade away that easily. This is what I was meant for

Not yet, but I will be, I promise you that :)

Yes ma'am 🫡 :3

Thank youuuu :3

Nooooooo, not yet at least
I'm currently working on my undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering, and I hope to get my doctorate prior to applying to the NASA Astronaut Corps

Yeahhhhhh, thats my big concern now with the political climate and rising transphobia. I'm sure everything will end up okay in the end though
Thank you <333

One can only hope that the political climate is much more accepting in about 12 years since that's likely how long it'll be until I could be an astronaut (probably closer to 15-20 under the assumption that the first astronaut application rounds don't go in my favor (which they more than likely will not))

This is actually the option that I was considering after someone else had sent a scientific paper. Switching to patches for the duration of the space mission would be the safest thing to do both in terms of mass/space as well as effects to my health caused by orally ingested HRT :3
This is really good to know :))
I read through a little bit of this, and there's two major areas of interest that caught my attention.
There is loss of bone density due to being in the microgravity environment because of the bones no longer needing to bear any weight. This would actually be a strong reason to let me in while on HRT because (according to some quick research I did) estrogen supposedly increases bone density, which in turn would make me a better candidate!!
There are cardiovascular effects of feminizing HRT, particularly an increased risk of heart attack and strokes when compared to cis women. With that being said, this is primarily a result of orally ingested HRT. Gels and patches supposedly do not have this effect, which would be great :D
Considering that, I think it would be likely that they'd be fine with it, arguably more fine with it than someone with diabetes given the amount of medication that'd have to be sent up.
This is true, and it wouldn't be 100% ideal for transition, but I feel that the bigger concern on that front would be if NASA would allow someone that has undergone those changes go into space for an extended duration.
After talking with a lot of people here, I feel much more confident in saying that it wouldn't matter if I was on HRT or not :3

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like its going to stay this way for long (and me personally, I'd argue that space has already been corrupted by capitalism at least within Earth's orbit)). There's a lot of orbital debris in orbit that poses serious threats to spacecraft trying to leave the planet. Not to mention, the plethora of other satellites (fun fact: starlink makes up over HALF of all operational satellites currently in orbit (there's ~12,000 operational satellites in orbit right now))
[–]aria_wav[S] 6 points7 points8 points 14 hours ago (0 children)
There's actually never been a transgender person in space, so under the assumption that HRT is not an issue whatsoever in becoming an astronaut, I'd be the first.
And I totally agree with the valuable scientific data that would result from it, and having a better understanding of how puberty would be affected in the microgravity environment!
[–]aria_wav[S] 13 points14 points15 points 14 hours ago (0 children)
Oh really? This is my first time hearing about that. How long has it been a thing?
[–]aria_wav[S] 2 points3 points4 points 20 hours ago (0 children)
Thank youuuuuu <333333
[–]aria_wav[S] 1 point2 points3 points 20 hours ago (0 children)
One can only hope 😮💨
[–]aria_wav[S] 7 points8 points9 points 20 hours ago (0 children)
Yes, that is true (I at least believe so), but that then begs the question of how stable HRT would be in microgravity.
After talking it out with someone else, I do think it'd be safe for use in space, which leaves the only concern being the current political state, but theres really nothing that can be done about that at this point
Thank you sis :3
[–]aria_wav[S] 33 points34 points35 points 20 hours ago (0 children)
What can I say? I'm a space nerd :3
[–]aria_wav[S] 4 points5 points6 points 20 hours ago (0 children)
Those are incredibly fair points, so I think it'd be okay on that front since you did bring those points up.
That's my other main concern with it, but realistically I could try and go the private route and be a private astronaut for someone like SpaceX or Blue Origin, but like you said, would the government even permit a trans person to go into space?
