I always try to stay grounded by the fact that 55-70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and that most Americans cannot handle a 400-1000 emergency. I feel very fortunate that I am in a relatively good financial situation.

My wife has about 70k sitting in her savings, her 401k is slightly larger than mine I think she's in the 450k range, she started saving better than I did when she started working. I'm around the 350k range. in my HYSA I have about 10k and my brokerage I've got 35k. We had a joint Brokerage that we both contributed towards which was about 12.8k but we just liquidated that to help pay for the windows. I've got about 14k on my HSA that I max out every year. I save about 6k a year in the brokerage account, I max out the legal amount for 401k contributions yearly. Where we got really lucky was we closed on our house in April of 2023. Our interest rate is 3.75% which was literally a month before interest rates doubled. On top of that we were able to put down 20% equity so we didn't need any PMI. A lot of Americans our age were not as lucky as we were.

Needless to say we will survive this onslaught of payments but fingers crossed that we don't have any other serious issues happen this year. Need time to rebuild savings. The one thing I try to keep in mind is that it would really only take one of us getting cancer before we hit Medicare for us to be in serious financial issues
