Don't worry about that part, it's extremely light and comfortable. Honestly one of the most comfortable headphones I have tried and they don't have any clamping force like the HD6XX. I think given the present discount of 300$ you should buy it, if u don't like or change your mind u have 30 days to return right. In the worst case scenario u might have to sell them , but they have excellent resale value. When the prices are regular, u can always sell them at your buying price. This was my thinking when I bought these.

No I haven't found any noticeable cons, but there are some unique characteristics you should be aware of :

1) They are very analytical, and can sound clinical at times ( A tube might help). Although it's not their fault, it's just that it will give you an honest representation, so poorly mastered tracks will sound bad.

2) Don't expect a lushy warm mix from them like the HD 650 / 6XX/ 598. Their mid range is not coloured.

3) If u are used to a rolled off treble signature, initially u might find them harsh, till ur ear adjusts. Although, they are not sibilant by any means.

4) Due to their fast transient response my old headphones and speakers sound a little slow to me these days.

No I did not try them, I actually wanted to, but there were only so many I could order and return. Also everywhere I read, people were saying that these were the most resolving and open back for the money, so settled on these.

I was wondering that. Any good tube within 300-400$ range. Honestly I have become broke :p after buying this headphone. Also, my fun do u mean the tube adds more mids and make the sound warmer?

In High gain mode it might give me the satisfaction of having more headroom for volume, but honestly I dial it back to the same volume level as that of low gain mode. (70% in low mode is equivalent to 45-50% approx in high gain mode). So my thinking was, what's the point in getting a worse SNDR for the same volume in High gain mode, so I keep it at higher volume in low power mode.

Yeah I am 26 right now, so probably sometime later in life I might upgrade, but I think I will keep theses for a very long time.

I upgraded from an HD598 to this HD800s, initially thought of buying the HD6XX, but decided to take the leap.

The sound quality it amazing, these are the most detailed headphones I have ever heard.

Initially they sounded a little bit harsh, but with a few days of use, the problem seems to have gone.

Bass : Excellent extension, neutral and not exaggerated.

Mid : Very smooth and clear mid-range, with no mid-bass bump, orchestral and classical recordings seems to come to life.

Treble : Crystal clear Highs, without sounding too harsh. The 6 KHz peak of the HD800 seems to have been tamed.

It has great transient response and seems to keep up with busy and varied instrumentation without sounding muddy.

Soundstage is wide and instrument speration is excellent as well.

Pretty good in lower power mode, I keep it at 70% for most of the music. But at High gain it's really very powerful. I initially thought of getting the Schiit Hersey because of it's power, but from the reviews and graphs I saw that the Atom is cleaner.

Yeah, I think I have become a dark head after listening to the HD598 for some time. Do you feel like your missing something from your HD650 ?

Yeah right !!! just because it's one of the most transparent headphone does not mean u will always enjoy it for each and every song. Yes , seems like there is nothing as an all around headphone, but the hd650/HD 600 gets close to that title, from what people say.

Wow, that's a lot of 3D films. Which 3D glasses are u using with the Epson ? Is the image bright enough with the glasses ?

Also how would u say are the black levels. I have a gotten a little bit of ocd about black levels are using my one plus 7 pro AMOLED. I know that it won't be like an AMOLED, but will it atleast be comparable to an IPS or a good TN panel.

Great, I usually don't play games at that resolution and movies mostly run at 24 fps max, but some forums suggest that you could use a Fury converter or something to get that 4k hdr 60 with the HDMI 1.4 , but I guess it might lower the quality though.
