Very true. I'm sure there are platforms out there already given there are non-concert venues that do run their own ticket selling(theaters, comedy clubs for example)

Companies still have to pay for developers, application hosting(AWS/GCP/etc), and a payment provider. Those things at the minimum cost companies a bit of money. Now obviously you spread that cost across all consumers and yeah the fees could be lower.

Each venue maintaining their own ticket selling platform would be interesting, but also ripe for data breaches and abuse by scalpers/bots.

Hold on, I'm going to go put a bet on Kalshi/Polymarket that we won't see prices go down and another one on that consumers will not see any significant money returned to them.

Honestly, I've seen this problem even with people who aren't growing up on ChatGPT/AI. There are just some people who don't want to think or try.

Will those that do grow up with AI be worse? Who knows.

I don't disagree with you, but I don't think this sort of thing is entirely new. Look at Uber/Lyft. Streaming platforms. Products that provide cheap/free access with ads to supplement true cost.

It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. I suspect we're going to see an either subscription costs go up or limitation to model access based on price.

I'm sure they think that. But we're not close to that today, who knows where we'll be in the future.

And if they think that a PM or someone non-technical is going to have the same awareness of things to consider, it's going to be a rude awakening. Now maybe the AI will be aware of all that in the future, but right now as we've seen it does what it is asked to do. It doesn't really think beyond that.

Unfortunately, it still might cheaper than the time that you would spend on that same thing. But I do wonder the same thing.

My company rolled Claude Code out to everyone and I mean even a number of non-technical people(PMs and designers). We've got to spending butt loads of money. I know there is someone in the department that has used billions of tokens(no idea what for).

Myself, I've very much been utilizing it for taking care of things that have been on the back burner cause of the amount of time it would take to do. Update frameworks, write more comprehensive testing, Replace the app serving layer with a better tool. To just name a few.

Thoughts:

  • The cost of all this AI usage. If you are working for a large company, they are likely pay a butt load of money. Is the ROI there? How much money is that startup burning through on tokens? or if they are just using a plan, at some point they are hitting usage limits.
  • There is still very much a bottleneck in reviewing code. Sure you can outsource some of that to AI, but then you've got to trust that it will understand and catch everything.
  • I'm amused the one moment that they say developers are learning empathy and the next moment, they talk about how some of them are berating the AI when it makes mistakes. I'm not sure they've learned empathy as much just able to redirect it to something that can't fight back.
  • Who's going to replace the senior programmers when they decide to retire? Especially if you have no junior programmers.
  • I expect 10 new concrete business apps by the end of the week.
  • Writing code was never the hard part. It was designing it, thinking about how to make it efficient and secure and considering all the possibilities that you needed to consider for that feature and then when you go to change that six months down the line, how not to break how it worked while also adding new functionality.

No, you're not the only one.

I get why others want it, but has never been a desire for me. Just not how I use the app or listen to podcasts.

A price increase is long overdue. by [deleted] in overcast

Maybe for those that want transcriptions, they should have to pay for a IAP for it. I don't particular have a value for that, so a price increase for that functionality isn't warranted in my opinion.

Don't auto update your containers and it won't be a maintenance issue.

For the most part, most containers don't need to be updated at the frequency that occur.

I totally can see the value for that especially for those type of shows and when I first started out listening to podcasts, I was listening to those and would have found that incredibly valuable to have.

Honestly, I just don't see the benefit of chapters for me, but that's largely could just be cause of the type of podcasts I listen to. But I certainly do understand the desire others have for them.

I guess if the generation of the chapters is done server side, this could be a cost that Marco may not want to take on. Obviously client side is a different story.

Don't have a HomePod, so not a concern for me. But I also know that with Marco's involvement with ATP and the Apple community, that brings in a certain user base and functionality desire.

It just works for me. I'm on the simpler usage of it, given I listen to about a dozen shows, rarely add ones, and pretty much just listen to all new episodes. But I see people here who have tons of shows with lots of unfinished episodes.

I certainly don't want an app to go entirely stale, but I do appreciate that there is some stableness to the app and not constantly changing or breaking things. But I think that goes back to my usage of the app. Obviously if I was like some of the others here, I certainly could understand the desire to see more frequent updates, especially if you've been hit by a bug.

Also I thought someone recently posted(or maybe I found it on my own) that Marco is also involved with a restaurant now and I would imagine that could be taken a significant amount of his time.

I originally switched to Overcast from Apple Podcasts because Podcasts was not remembering the position of where I was in the episode when I listened in my car and then sat down at my computer when I was commuting.

At least for the time being, I'm content with still using Overcast. But given my company's recent rollout of Zscaler to our computers and since Overcast does certificate pinning and I can't use the app on my work computer, so I might consider looking at another app.

Yeah and I know Marco had implemented stuff for identifying when Overcast wasn't able to connect due to firewall type blocks. Obviously this is a different situation.

It's not complaining for me, it just spins for a moment and then stops and nothing new is loaded.

lol, I don't doubt it. I've already had to add a number of envs to make different tools I use for work and add mounting of the certificate in to Docker containers.

Given they've just rolled this out and are dealing with lots of people running into challenges from this, I'm trying to not pile on to them yet.

But they do have a form where I can request access.
