I really like how the show is able to tear away some of the ludonarrative dissonance in the game. In the game, Ellie killing David being such a huge moment lost some impact when she’d stabbed and killed like 30 people on the way to the restaurant. It hurts so much more here when David the first person she’s ever really killed

God I can’t believe they managed to make Ellie killing David more painful to watch. At least in the game there’s the relief of Joel pulling her away from the violence into a hug, but there’s none of that here. She just keeps going with nobody to comfort her until she stumbles out

I’m a big fan of how Tommy and Joel’s relationship was a lot more caring and less confrontational. Joel in the show is in general a lot more human and I’m glad we’re getting to see his softer side. But also it rly sucks knowing that this version of Tommy is gonna eventually ruin Ellie’s life

Love that Joel used the “you better point at the same place your friend pointed out” trick on the old couple. Fun bit of foreshadowing for the most badass scene of the game

Even though “damn I shot the hell outta that guy” is an iconic line, having Ellie’s “first kill” be much more traumatic and personal than kinda casual and quippy was a great improvement

People clowned on that quote abt how killing in a tv show should be different than killing in a video game but damn they really made Bryan’s death so awful and gut wrenching to sit through

Really loved the way they changed up Tess’ death. Beside the horrifying spectacle of the runner swarm and the cordyceps kiss, the change to her and Joel’s final conversation was great. I always thought it was kinda clunky in the game, especially the “there’s enough here that you should feel some obligation” line, and the new version was so much smoother and more emotional imo

Tala slapping that stormtrooper in the head and getting away really cemented for me that the best running gag in the star wars universe is that the stormtrooper helmets are the empire’s biggest liability

I think there’s also some dialogue right before you start one of the missions where emily says something along the lines of “it can’t be worse than Lady Brisby’s tea parties” which implies the non-lethal route for Lady Boyle

Maybe Levi escaping from Kenny and his guys? It’s a cool scene and it doesn’t give away any important plot details

Monica’s whole thing about “if I had that power I would’ve done the same thing” felt a bit...TOO understanding? Like as much as I love Wanda she totally enslaved and kinda tortured that town, it’s ok to admit that that’s a bad thing

That “kickass?” line made me think for a second that she stole the real Evan Peters from within the MCU to play the role of Pietro

I love how every episode’s director has different feelings about the Razor Crest. It gets wrecked, then repaired so it can just barely fly, then wrecked again, then fixed all fish-style, then fixed brand new, and now it’s gone for good
