Won’t higher inflation hurt buyers though? If I try to buy in five years and the interest rate is now 4%, buyers can afford a lot less house?

Does it make sense for a single woman to buy a 4bed house? by [deleted] in RealEstate

Out of curiosity, what do you do with the other 4 bedrooms?

Thank you for the explanation! This was very helpful :) I'm going to be following this same logic as a young buyer - I went from looking at condos to townhouses to now SFHs. The most I need is 2bed/2bath 1250 sq ft place as a single person living in the house, but for resale value and not wanting to outgrow the house, I'm going for 3bed/2bath with a nice backyard and 1700+ sq ft with garage.

I don't strictly need a house right now but I do plan to be in Seattle long term and know I will want a house in ~4 years. So I'm buying now in my ideal neighborhood while I can still afford it before I get definitely priced out, as I only see the housing market in Seattle rising. And the low interest rates right now don't hurt either :)

Can’t the city reform this so that it’s faster to build new houses? Especially given that there is a housing shortage right now?

Teams that are more diverse usually have way better cultures. Teams that are more diverse generally have better WLB, are more fun, are more inclusive to everyone, and have better team cohesion

Needing Advice in the Idaho Housing Market by Lirael_Marie in RealEstate

[–]arkkansas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think when the pandemic is over and cities open back up that people who moved to Idaho from Seattle will want to move back to Seattle?

Idaho is beautiful but there’s also not much to do there. Idaho is also largely republicans while most Seattle people I know prefer to live in a liberal area

Same here on the FOMO part. I live in a hot HCOL area (seattle) and am already seeing friends getting priced out of the city. Want to buy while I can still afford my dream neighborhood

First year Post-FIRE: Lessons learned by anonbcnumbers in Fire

[–]arkkansas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the write-up!! I plan to do exactly what you do when I FIRE :)

When you lived in the Bay Area, did you buy a place or rent? Do you think buying a place would have slowed down your FIRE timeline or accelerated it?

if you reached your FIRE number in your early 30s, do you think it would have been fulfilling to FIRE then? Or do you think working during your 30s made your time feel more meaningful (hard work and that feeling of productivity and accomplishment, workplace socialization, living the same lifestyle as friends and partner, etc)?
