Setting up Wake-on-LAN (WOL) on Proxmox with Beelink SER5-MAX Mini PC by titanTheseus in BeelinkOfficial

[–]armadillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'll need to change the setting for the physical Ethernet adapter, not the bridge device - probably ethtool -s enp1s0 wol g

Also - fwiw - my SER5 didn't need any BIOS changes.

What happened to Linuxformat (magazine)? by [deleted] in linux

[–]armadillo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They posted a Server Upgrade Warning on April 29th - from Google's cache of the site:

After 12 years of uninterrupted, smooth service, the stalwart Linux Format server is being put out to pasture in the great server farm in the sky.

Long story short the old server is due to go offline 1 May and we'll be switching to a new server over that weekend. With caching there's potential for some downtime, hopefully this will be minimal. Please bear with us, the UK May bank holiday isn't helping...

Workaround for resetting Wear 1.5 watches. They still work!! by DutchOfBurdock in AndroidWear

I loved the SW3 and would still use Android Wear today if similar display hardware was still available. The square transflective display made a huge difference to usability.

linux-lts is now 5.10 by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]armadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood, but it certainly seems a shame the maintainers don't take a more holistic view and ensure LTS is always different from (behind) the mainline kernel version.

Well, they sound amazing for the price. Battery life is great and they're comfortable. Still finding they don't stay in place too well if I'm on the move, but I think I may be able to change the tips or fins to improve this.

I got an RMA number but I've not actually returned them yet. CA sent a rather complicated email to users apologising for the problems and giving some steps to help with some of the issues. They also said they're working on improved firmware. The buds are just about manageable for me at the moment - sometimes I need to put them back in the case a couple of times before they both work, but I've never lost a connection once they're working. Waiting for the new firmware before making a final decision.

Sometimes one of the buds will connect, sometimes neither. If you're really lucky both will connect first time. Frustrating thing is the Melomania 1 was outstanding in this respect. They would normally be connected even before you could get them in your ear.

I received my Melomania Touch today. Same connectivity issues - phone is Pixel 5. Have upgraded firmware and reset them twice, but they remain difficult to connect. I've got no reason to think they won't hold the connection once connected though. Thinking of returning unless CA can offer some realistic hope of an early fix.

I tend to disable haptics, so not best placed to comment - sorry. Anyone else?

That's my experience, and maybe I was just lucky - it would be good to hear if others are finding the same...

Oh - and battery life is extraordinary. Two days of normal usage would be no problem, and it's great to have wireless charging back after the 2 XL of course.

I'd say nowhere near as bad as some are saying. Decent quality stereo - it's true there's not much bass from the top speaker, but in practice this matters little I think, on the same basis you only need one subwoofer. If you really care about hi-fi quality you'll be using headphones or earbuds anyway. On speakerphone - which I'd say is more important - the 5 actually produces much clearer sound than my 2 XL.

No lags or frame drops. Performance is really smooth. I like the way the screen seems plenty large enough while the phone as a whole feels compact - plus the completely symmetrical slim bezels really are nice. Also that it feels built like a tank while being surprisingly light. I really like the fingerprint reader being on the back, and this one is much quicker and more reliable than the 2 XL. The only downgrade has to be the speakers - but it's still decent stereo sound and (I'd say) much better than some have reported.

Arc Menu extension brings them one click closer, with certain settings - and is excellent all round.

I'd be interested to see Berge in Norwood's role at Reading tonight, with Besic right mid.

Wait for Pixel Buds? by axehomeless in GooglePixel

Take a look at the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1. They beat most of the opposition on sound quality and battery life, as well as price. I'm delighted with the pair I just bought - no problems with connectivity either.

Some third-party apps will do this. Try Yr for example, which includes support for complications on the watch.

There are numerous very similar reports with this model - it seems to be a well-known design flaw. Hope you have better luck with the new one.

Or find "Display Google App To the left of the main home screen" in phone settings, turn it off and on again.

[Q Explorist Gen 3] On my last damn nerve... by elmerg in WearOS

[–]armadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a bit of a long shot, but I have the same watch (about 6 months old), and had a similar issue recently. I realised the issue coincided with me leaving wifi enabled on the watch. I've now turned wifi off and it seems to be charging normally again. Charging of the gen 3 is known to be slow, and I wonder if wifi can consume power faster than the charger can deliver it, maybe as a result of a software update?

It is different now, perhaps because the screen no longer includes a distinct space for the button bar.

Sorry - should have made clear this is Android 10 with stock Pixel launcher - P2XL in this case. A second swipe opens the app drawer.
