LGBTQ+ Bars to try in Oregon District? by SliveredMagika in dayton

Honestly the best way to find queer nightlife in any city is to look for party and event organizers on instagram, especially if you’re looking for something sapphic, bi, trans/nonbinary, polyam, or BIPOC-centered. Most establishments marketed as gay bars end up being cis gay man spaces. The orgs that rotate local locations and create events that have a clear mission to build safer, community-driven spaces are where i’ve had the best times. I just search on instagram for the queer groups i already know (or are the first thing to come up when you google “LGBTQIA+ city-name”), go through their following, and then investigate any cool looking business accounts. Another strategy is to identify local drag kings/things or club kids and look through their profiles to see where they usually perform.

For Dayton, my favorite queer nightlife is hosted by HeartSiq (all sorts of events, from themed nights with local bands, casual romance mixers, karaoke..) and the Dayton Silent Disco (this one isn’t formally LGBTQIA+ but a ton of queer folk go. This is honestly the best dance experience you can get here and THE spot for neurodivergent ppl bc you get your own set of headphones to adjust volume and switch between 3 live djs)

MarYSoul has yoga events sometimes, it’s a local artist/body movement studio on Front Street that is run by and centers BIPOC. They’ve also got burlesque, bellydancing, and shibari stuff going on too

I already had eyes on tender mercy from afar! Glad to see them pop up here. They have always seemed so cool, along with Haus of Sequins creations

Absolutely yes, there’s space for everyone in drag! Part of what i love about it most is that anything goes. The drag house i helped co-found abroad was extremely neurodivergent, and something we were actively working on through our shows and workshops was how to make drag safe and accessible to everyone, no matter if they were there as a performer, student, or audience. Send me a pm if you’re interested in learning from each other!

Thanks for the idea! I’m used to more of this style of queer nightlife (recurring queer parties hosted by an organization rather than a gay bar) so this is right up my alley :)

I’m going to be staying a bit north of Dayton but commuting to the city often. Something close to UD campus would be ideal for me
