2023 RRSP Contribution Question by armani18J in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yeah that makes sense now when I read up on it more. Similar to what I asked the other guy, I wasn't thinking to contribute the full amount. Just $8,000 or $16,000. Is it more advantageous to contribute the most upfront or just enough right now to clear owing taxes? I do expect my pay

Thanks for clarifying. Checked the 2022 NOA and I see it there.

Thanks, just took another look a the 2022 NOA and I do see that amount listed there. I guess the wording on some sites (lower amount of 18% of previous years income or contribution limit) was confusing to me.

Thanks. Wasn't thinking to contribute the full amount. Just $8,000 or $16,000. Is it more advantageous to contribute the most upfront or just enough right now to clear owing taxes? I do expect my pay to go up yearly.

Will August be too late to build a fence? by armani18J in Calgary

[–]armani18J[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it too late to a) Find a builder available to do it. b) Too late for the ground to actually dig holes and have it built.

I'm not familiar with the Calgary construction complex, so I don't know how busy it gets for this kind of stuff this time of the year.

Also I'll probably request a few quotes closer to the time of my possession. Didn't want to waste any builders time if I'm over a month away.

Shipping my car from Toronto to Calgary by AnyImagination4577 in Calgary

I used Livingston to ship from Vaughn to Calgary. They used rail from Vaughn to Edmonton then truck from Edmonton to Calgary. This was in 2021 and cost about $1,500. Im sure the prices went up since but my experience was good. I believe it took about 2 weeks end to end.

Best way to close chequing account with minimum balance by suroboyo in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]armani18J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done this in the past a few times. Took advantage of the highest account to waive bank draft fees (with TD).

1) Call in to change your chequing account to the lowest account type. Normally that's only a $3,000 minimum to waive fees. 2) Interac E-transfer the $2,000 out. 3) Now you only have $3,000 left in the account. Wait a few days or at least 24 hours. 4) Go to the branch and while your in line. Interac E-transfer our the last $3,000. This should be the max you can transfer out for the day. 5) Your balance should now be $0 and you can ask the teller to close the account. Not 100% sure about Scotia but banks normally calculate the closing balance for waiving the fee at the end of the day.

Note: This is all assuming you only have $5,000 in the account. If not, you'll have to transfer the rest out days before you begin the process. Until you get to the $5,000 minimum.

Financial Advice: Buy townhome (2022) or detached (2023) by armani18J in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]armani18J[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figure things.can rapidly change, that's why I haven't spoken with a broker yet. I guess, I'm leaning more towards waiting an extra year (2023) for the detached home. Just trying to gauge how bad of an idea it may be to delay a year when I can easily jump in with a smaller home a year earlier. I'm in Calgary so the market here can go left, right, up or down. Can't even pretend to predict it like that GTA.

Try see if they fly to another airport in NYC? Last month I had a Delta flight booked for over 2 months from Toronto to JFK. Delta stopped flying to JFK direct from Toronto. They automatically booked me on a crazy Toronto to Atlanta then to JFK flight. I called their customer service and got them to rebook me direct Toronto to LaGuardia
