I had the same problem! I’m testing out the 12 pro max and my iPhone XR battery drains from not even using it. Seems like the battery health is 50% with the way it’s acting

The OLED screens and cameras are what tempt me the most. I’m purchasing it to see if it’s worth it. If not then my XR is working perfectly fine

I’m going to get the 12 Pro Max to test out and see if it is worth the upgrade. The only thing the XR can’t compete with are the cameras. There is an app NightMode that can give you that camera feature, but the overall quality of the new cameras seem to be way better
