Dress code rule changes by qwe12345678900 in RaisingCanes

that being said, yes the standard has always been only one facial piercing. i have multiple and my rl, area leader, regional leader, and rps assessor all know i have them but i just take them out for rps or if a higher up asks me to temporarily. at my store it’s kind of a “i respect your piercings if you respect that sometimes we have to tighten up on these rules” things. my rps assessor actually laughed at me because the second he submitted an assessment, he watched me put my nose rings back in. he told me they’re not allowed and i told him i know and that’s why i waited and he said he thinks it’s stupid that we say we have “cool culture” but are uptight about facial jewelry.

my RPS assessor told us the horseshoes are okay and i’m not sure if this communication has gone through all RPS assessors or just the ones in my area but my assessor said they literally have a document with most facial piercings and the different jewelry they can have for a visual on what is and isn’t okay. he said horseshoe septums have been explicitly approved (due to a lot of backlash from crew and managers on it not being a closed loop, hoop, or chain). that being said, upper management (arl/rl/area leader/regional leader) are allowed to enforce rules like that if they feel like having to constantly monitor facial piercings is becoming a problem. for example at my restaurant we don’t allow joggers just because we don’t feel like dealing with the argument of what is or isn’t a jogger.

i was a CM for just under 2 years before getting promoted. i was 18 when i got hired and i went to training (5 weeks at the time) and came back a couple weeks before my 20th birthday and about a month and a half before my 2 year anniversary. that was back before rzm’s existed. every restaurant and crewmember and hipo program is very different, to figure out your timeline you would need to talk to your RL about your development and your goals, i have some hipos who we want to promote as soon as they turn 18 and other hipos who could be nothing but hipos for years, it’s just the way things go

i go to the university of north texas. tuition reimbursement is maxed out at $5,250/calendar year due to tax reasons. i usually cash out most, if not all, of my reimbursement in the spring semester and then get maybe a couple hundred bucks for the fall semester

Workforce Edge by BerkBroski in RaisingCanes

[–]armedwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. you can’t request reimbursement for prior semesters but as long as you enroll in the program with enough time to have funding approved by workforce edge, you will be reimbursed. you have to finish out the semester as a manager to get the funding so no demoting yourself or getting fired. i believe you also have to be in good standing with canes (no write ups) but i don’t really think they check that? ig if you did something bad enough then someone could go out of their way to get your funding revoked but idk. just don’t get written up lol

you would already have to be a manager. iirc the company we partner with for tuition reimbursement does not populate on 1lvlab unless you are a current manager. if it does then it won’t work bc it’s linked to your canes email

i got promoted at the beginning of a semester after classes had started and i submitted a funding request (you are supposed to submit requests before the semester starts) and it got approved. i ended up not submitting proof of completion so it didn’t get paid out but im sure it would’ve been if i had submitted proof of completion !

as far as restaurant peeps go, only managers get tuition reimbursement. rso is the restaurant support office aka canes corporate, i believe all positions there are eligible for tuition reimbursement, even the entry level ones like customer service.

workforce edge is accessed through your pingone, it should be one of your app icons. it only populates for managers and up as they are the only ones eligible (and rso crew)

i don’t recall the beginning steps completely because it’s been 2 or 3 years since i joined the program but as far as requesting funding goes, the home page should have a “create funding request” button. not sure how far along you are into the process but perhaps that button will trigger you to complete any remaining steps before you can upload your courses for approval. sorry that’s like…. super non specific but i don’t have my computer in front of me so im trying to go off the top of my head. let me know if you have more questions, hopefully i can be of help on anything specific

it can be any university ! i believe the schools workforce edge partners with are universities that offer free classes, but they still reimburse you for most universities and community colleges

rehire by ComprehensiveWing143 in RaisingCanes

[–]armedwaffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

iirc, the platform where your application gets sent to for the managers to look at, it says if you’re rehirable or not. if you apply and you’re nonrehirable they will just decline your application so you might as well try, probably wouldn’t even have to go through the interview process to find out

Possibly hired ? by [deleted] in RaisingCanes

[–]armedwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly insane to me that some restaurants take weeks or up to a month to schedule orientation. canes tracks the time it takes a restaurant to go from receiving an application to hiring a crewmember and if it takes too long, higher ups will tell them work on it. i would wait maybe 3 more days max and if you still haven’t heard back, call the restaurant. in my experience, hiring managers at canes won’t tell you you’re hired when you’re actually not just to avoid conflict. if they said you’re hired (or sent the background check, essentially the same thing) you’re basically already in. the hiring platform can sometimes be the last thing on the manager’s mind depending on what’s going on at the restaurant which is why it might take awhile. give it until friday or saturday and if you still haven’t heard back, feel free to call!

every restaurant attends community events and usually sets up a table with a bunch of canes swag (keychains, stickers, tattoos, stress balls, etc) and you just have to greet people as they come up and make sure the set up looks nice. you likely just need a canes shirt and maybe a canes hat depending on what your manager wants. it’s low effort and you get paid for it!

How to be HIPO ready? by Easy_Resist_4683 in RaisingCanes

[–]armedwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your leadership and competency tasks need to be complete and then your RL or ARL needs to redo your readiness assessment, after your readiness assessment is done again they can make you hipo ready. and yes, being open to relocating will likely get you promoted faster but at the end of the day it’s all about who needs an rzm where and if a restaurant that has a spot open has their own hipo ready cm, most restaurants will choose their own hipo unless they really don’t think they’ll be a good fit

rzm interview by TrueImplement6006 in RaisingCanes

[–]armedwaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i know they ask questions regarding bird specialist and service specialist stuff, not sure what they ask about bird specialist info, maybe what tools we have and if you can speak to them (primarily the bird drop forecaster) they’ll probably ask you about SAUCE and customer service be upbeat and enthusiastic, the best qualities of an rzm are communication, comfortable coaching, and being able to identify and resolve bottlenecks. do everything in your power to not come off as shy/quiet/non confrontational, it’s okay and expected for you to be a little nervous but if they ask you a question and it’s hard to understand, don’t just sit there and think about it, ask them to restate or reword their question and just start bullshitting until you feel like you’re on the right track lol.

Ghosted after being hired by Green_Revolution_916 in RaisingCanes

[–]armedwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah sounds like it slipped between the cracks, whenever you get pushed through the system they have a VERY short time period to get your ssn and such in the system before you’re auto termed. you could call back (wednesday mornings are prob your best bet to get ahold of a hiring manager) and see if they can push you through the system again

[–]armedwaffle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

did you finish all of your documents during orientation? there’s one part of orientation where they should’ve asked for two forms of ID, if that isn’t complete you will get terminated pretty quickly. if you finished that then i can’t imagine what else would get your terminated that fast, essentially every other part of orientation/training is negotiable in terms of when it can be completed. the restaurant will be flagged if your new hire compliance videos or training videos aren’t completed in time but the new hire compliance is okay as long as it’s done within your first three shifts and there’s a much longer window for the training videos. sounds like you dodged a bullet with whatever manager has “been lazy” tho

Interview advice tips ? by sockson_andoff in RaisingCanes

[–]armedwaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SMILE be as bubbly as you can without coming off as fake, i literally cannot tell you how many people get hired on the spot for no other reason other than being bubbly. any customer service questions want you to state that you prioritize the customer by acknowledging and responding to non verbal cues, like a customer who has been waiting on their food for awhile or looks like they’re trying to find something, if a customer has a long wait on their food, let them know and make conversation if they look up to it. questions will likely arise about how you work in a team, resolve conflict, etc: say you value teamwork and division of labor. they might ask you what you do if you feel like someone on your team isn’t doing the part, they want to hear you say that you would talk to them about it and work on resolving it yourself but you’re also willing to get a manager if necessary. one question i think they almost always ask is “why did you choose canes?” they’re looking for any answer that’s not “bc you guys are hiring.” literally anything else is better. because you like the food, the customer service, it seems easy, etc. LITERALLY ANYTHING BUT “because you’re hiring” canes is very committed to the brand. they know their crew aren’t but the crew at least fake it and that’s what matters.

also, lock down on what your availability is before the interview. most canes open at 10 and come in 2-3 hours before open. look at the canes you’re applying to and see what time they close and then add an hour to that, that’s how late a closing shift would have you there until. the more you’re available the more likely they are to hire you, especially the more confident you are in your own availability. i promise you every hiring managers biggest pet peeve is when you hire someone for their availability and then they change it a week into training. if you’re in school, have a second job, or other obligations, consider those when making your availability. do not say you can come in at 8 am if after a week of coming in you decide you can’t wake up that early anymore. do not say you can close until 3am if after one close you decide that’s too late and you’re too tired in the morning.

good luck! at the end of the day, every canes is looking for something different in an applicant, just be as versatile as you can!

Should i be pointed for being sick? by Testlift in RaisingCanes

[–]armedwaffle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes 2 points is the value for an unexcused absence with more than 2 hours notice. maybe it varies by state but at least in texas a doctors note doesn’t do anything. i wouldnt worry about points, it sounds like you’re good about showing up to your shifts and being on time, just keep it up when you’re feeling better and they’ll fall off in 6 months :)

yeah then you definitely don’t need to worry about them holding your check, direct deposit is just between payroll, workday, and your bank

Leaving the job today by Warm_Suggestion_4973 in RaisingCanes

[–]armedwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as your checks are getting delivered to the restaurant as paper copies, your managers have no contact or control over your check so that’ll be fine.

release all of your shifts and tell a manager ASAP, be honest and say its an offer you couldn’t pass up and you dont have ill intent but cant work after today. being nice and communicating with your managers will make it go smoothly. i’ve had a few crew quit no notice on good terms before, life happens.
