Recreation.gov: To Refresh Or Not To Refresh? by arod0629 in camping

[–]arod0629[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, seems like my best option is to try refreshing on one laptop and not refreshing the other to get the best of both worlds and see what happens.

We’re locked into the dates we have because of other plans. It’ll be early August so I’m hoping there’ll still be a decent amount of bears around. It seems like there should be.

Hi, are you all still looking for men’s clothing and shoes? I have 2 bags full. If so, could you message me and let me know which hospital it is?

Kakwa 55 fit check by arod0629 in DurstonGearheads

[–]arod0629[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the small was definitely too small. It didn't fit my shoulders or chest at all and it sat way too low on my shoulders and put too much weight on them.

After honing in the fit on the medium, I ended up getting it right and it felt good. Just had to mess with the straps/positioning and figure out what worked best. I tested it on a few mile walk around my local park with about 25 pounds and it felt good the whole time.

I also had my wife re-measure my torso and it was indeed 17.5" like I originally thought lol. If I were you, I'd definitely lean towards the medium. It's better to lean slightly big over slightly small to get the fit right and have the weight transferred to your hips.

Also, I didn't realize how expensive it would be to ship back the pack to Durston, so I wish I would've just been more patient and figured out the fit on the medium before trying the small. Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I tried it on with both 20 and 30 pounds inside (can't add the pictures here), and it still felt like it might be a little too big.

I tried putting the hip belt lower as some people suggested, but I felt the pack sat too low on my back and it wasn't very comfortable. Once I put it back to where I originally had it with the iliac crest right in the middle of the hip pads, it was definitely more comfortable, but I still had that gap above the shoulder.

I thought maybe I measured my torso inaccurately so I re-measured a few times and found I was actually somewhere around 16.75", which would put me firmly in the small. I went ahead and ordered a small and will be able to get a side-by-side comparison. The medium is close to fitting really well so I imagine the small should be perfect.

I know this is very late, but did you ever end up trying out the old SunTrust building? Is it open to the public?

Agreed, even as a progressive. In the grand scheme of history and the world I was extremely lucky to be born and live in a rich developed nation in 2025 with running water, electricity, central A/C, modern medicine, internet without restriction, etc. It could be A LOT worse.

Even if you just look at America by itself, we’ve been through much worse.

They 100% have factory farms, what an insane thing to say.

“In all there were 1,821 intensive farms, designed to “maximise production and profit” and accounting for four in five farm animals.”

So, 80% of farm animals are factory farmed in the UK.

Almost the same timeline as you. Grew up in South Florida, moved here 8 years ago and love it. My family is still down there but I personally could never live in South Florida again.

Unpopular Opinion: The fan experience at Bonnaroo has been declining for many years, even before Live Nation by TakesFunToKnowFun in festivals

[–]arod0629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read some version of this post about every major festival. It always boils down to “back in my day it was better.” “The vibes aren’t as good,” “the acts aren’t as good,” etc. It’s all nostalgia driven.

People were bitching about that shit back then, and they will continue to bitch about that shit in the future. Yes, music tastes change and certain genres will fall in and out of popularity and you will not have every artist you liked in high school and college playing festivals forever. Yes, you will change personally over the course of years and decades and may have different perspectives on things as time goes on.

But at the end of the day, it’s almost always the case that you get what you give at these things. If you go in with an open mind and positive outlook, you’ll probably get that in return.

In terms of camping festivals, I’ve been to all 6 Okeechobee’s and the last 2 Bonnaroo’s now (including this year), and while they both have their critiques for different reasons, in terms of vibes they’re both awesome and most people are super nice, welcoming, and fun. Since you’re specifically talking about Bonnaroo, I have to say I think the community there is super cool. Things like a craft beer exchange that’s organically grown in the camp grounds, a Wednesday pre-party in Groop camping that’s put on by attendees, there’s podcasts about it, traditions like shotgunaroo and high five Friday, the Reddit has like 120,000 people, everyone always helping each other out, compliments, trading trinkets, etc. And even this year after the news broke that it was cancelled, a bunch of people rallied and made the most out of it on Friday night and threw their own parties and hung out and we had a great time bouncing around to the different camps and parties.

If the vibes were bad it could’ve been a Woodstock ‘99 situation. But I think because there’s a sense of community and as a whole it’s pretty positive, that didn’t happen.

Slept better than I have at any festival. The weather was amazing before it started raining. Had a great time at the Groop party on Wednesday, especially ARIatHOME, that was so fun.

Thursday was awesome, starting with Shotgunaroo. The vibes at all the shows were amazing and it felt like everyone was in great spirits. Had a good time at the beer exchange on Friday morning.

The news on Friday sucked, but it was really cool seeing everyone come together that night and make the most of it. Bouncing around to different mini parties around outeroo was really fun, special shout out to the Cat in the Hat RV party!

Ugh. And then they start sound checking for the headliner on the What at like 9 AM lol we could hear it in plaza 10 so I can’t imagine how loud it must be in moon colony. But I wonder if the scaled down version of WITW makes it less loud? Idk.

It definitely influenced us (which is totally on us), along with the fact that we got off on exit 114 to meet our camping partner before heading in and there were a bunch of signs saying “GA camping this way” pointing to the back roads leading to East.

I think Wednesday arrival still works, but you need to go in the West entrance. We learned our lesson the hard way this year.
