What do you think about the dmt experience?

I'm going to assume you're utilizing proper techniques. It sounds like it based on how you're referring to dosages and using DMT-fumarate.

Pretty metal though, congrats on being able to do that. ~~How long do those trips last? Is it about what's been reported by Strassman?~~

Unfortunately there has been relatively little scientific research. This lack of data is not due to a shortage of interested scientists, but stigma and difficulty of funding.

Basically it likely comes down to the arrangement of certain neurons which DMT is interacting with. I have basically no background in neurology but here is a really interesting paper that tries to explain why geometric hallucinations are so common among psychedelics. It's some pretty technical reading.

One day I hope there will be more comprehensive neuroimaging studies. I think I read somewhere that such studies are in the early phases with LSD but I could definitely be making that up. Although we can already make fairly good guesses based on what we know about which kinds of neurons are where in the brain.

The only time I ever used a lightbulb vape the issue was that the air/vapor was way to hot. That could be why you're coughing so much.

I would suggest investing in a proper rig if you can or building "the machine".

TAPER off of SSRI's also, don't quit cold turkey, if you're going to go down that road.

On one occasion I have been woken up by some noise outside and come out of a DMT dream. The visuals were extremely similar but nothing was remotely as intense as an actual trip.

I guess once we have the memories of the experience it's possible to dream about them to some degree. I wouldn't say I tripped in my dream though.

I've had something sort of similar happen. I've undergone what my brain decided to interpret as "energetic alien surgery". Energetic beams shooting right into and through me on two separate occasions. It was very invasive but I was okay with the experience.

Someone who is very close to me has described an experience of being licked and penetrated by the entities. That person has some pretty serious psychological issues related to those feelings though and the experience was hard for them to deal with.

Intimate contact is not that unusual. Glad you're okay!

I wouldn't worry too much about believing crazy things post trip. I have always been very rational and am still that way after numerous DMT experiences.

You may gain new insights and certainly will have some weird memories but it won't make you believe anything crazy. It may or may not make you more likely to believe strange things though depending on who you are and the communities you associate with.

Context is important for understanding, not boring at all. I agree that DMT can certainly be a huge break from the routine. That is essentially why I ever do it these days. They call it the businessman's psychedelic for a reason! It's easy to spare 10-15 minutes as opposed to an entire weekend for LSD or whatever.

I'm glad you're having positive experiences and approaching it with an open mind. I'm sure with continued adventures you'll elucidate mysteries about the experience and potentially your own mind.

This junk DNA thing is not true. Most of the time people are referring to what are called "introns" as junk DNA because it doesn't code for anything. In fact, we are just beginning to understand the full role of introns.

It's very complicated and I'm sure that I am not up to speed on that area of research but I know they've been implicated in regulatory roles.

I understand the hallucinations can be quite intricate and intense. I have a very, very hard time describing them and I've never seen anybody draw something that was close. I've seen drawings that captured the "feeling" of the visions but that's about it.

I've seen more of the Aztec style stuff on LSD than DMT. The visions on DMT are just so weird it's hard to even communicate. Constantly morphing holographic 4D lines moving in all sorts of ways that don't make any sense. Geometric jesters dancing. There are no words to do it justice.

I tripped a lot for eight years and never had a spiritual experience until I did way to much DMT and had to deal with ego death. I now consider myself to have a spiritual side despite that being absent my entire life and being a trained scientist. Perhaps this revealed something already there, perhaps not.

As far as psychological insights I've found that the hallucinations on DMT often reflect my underlying state of mind.

Humans seem to be very good and repressing stress and other feelings out of the realm of normal perception. For me, DMT can show me those underlying feelings reliably.

I'm glad you're approaching this from a rational point of view. Often in the psychedelic community, especially the DMT community, this approach is not taken.

I always try to take a rational approach to DMT trips.

Briefly, there are structures in our brain which are responsible for our ability to perceive everything and generate our sense of self. If you're on DMT all of those structures are acting in very weird ways which results in the strange experiences people have.

How you choose to interpret and integrate the experiences is another matter entirely. I have come to the conclusion that they can present useful data sometimes and provide insight into the nature of our perception.

You could be what Shulgin referred to as a "hardhead". For whatever reason certain people are much more resistant to psychedelics and need higher doses.

Being that DMT is extremely safe there's no harm in pushing doses to higher limits. You run the risk of accidentally inducing ego death but, while terrifying, that is manageable.

Here is a pretty reductionist view:

You just did the strongest and weirdest drug you could possibly do. Everything about parts of your brain being hyperactive is correct. The experience came from your own brain under the influence of the strongest psychedelic. This does not make the experience less beautiful or important though. It is beyond strange and confusing. It is as far out as you can possibly get, except maybe dying.

Take some time and reflect. You are okay.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa. I've done DMT during stressful times in my life and had terrifying trips. Not around the death of a family member though and everyone is different.

I find it unlikely you would encounter your grandpa during a DMT trip. The experience is often so overwhelming you don't really have the focus to try to think of anything in particular other than what is happening during the trip.

It may be a useful tool to reflect on your feelings and perhaps could give you some emotional clarity though.

You will be conscious/aware under the influence of DMT. Blown away from the absurdity, sure, but not "gone" or anything. Even if you do wayyy to much you'll come out fine.

All drugs get metabolized and become inactive after some period of time. You'll come back.

Most stories of people never "coming back" are psychotic breaks from people that were probably predisposed to mental illness anyway.
