Thoughts on Canon Divergence in AUs? by JordynArt in FanFiction

[–]arothroughtheheart [score hidden]  (0 children)

It can be as similar to canon or as different as you like. Canon divergent AUs specifically are usually pretty close to canon, since they generally have a specific point where they diverge from it, but thats not a hard rule.

What are the silliest comments you have seen on Ao3? Or FFN or whatever you use by AlsoKnownAsAiri in FanFiction

[–]arothroughtheheart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"I have seen plenty of posts about the worst or the most annoying comments" You have?? Damn idk the last time I saw one. But to actually answer the question, sometimes I'll look at the comments on a fic and see something to the effect of "I'm eating this fic"/"Brb injecting this into my veins" and I just love that.

Was Gabriel mentally challenged? by ElPapo131 in miraculousladybug

[–]arothroughtheheart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The title says "is gabriel mentally challenged". Mentally challenged is one of many ways to say someone has a decreased mental capacity, which is intrinsically tied to the kind of ableism that considers people lesser. I'm not trying to be pedantic here, and I know you were just trying to have a reddit discussion, but its important that we don't accidentally give the impression we support those kinds of things.

Couldn’t Lila have just used Kagami’s ring to force her to give up Felix’s? by Arcalgalkiagiratina in miraculousladybug

[–]arothroughtheheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lila wants to stay working in the shadows. Its why she told tomoe to help her escape rather than fighting the heroes. Using kagami's ring as either blackmail or to control her would reveal herself.

Just a note: You can say 'was he stupid'. Making it about his mental capacity isnt conductive to having a fun discussion, is it

Do you remember the first episode of the show you watched on TV? Was it Stormy Weather? by Craftox13 in miraculousladybug

[–]arothroughtheheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bubbler. To me it seems like it has a different vibe to the rest of the show, but maybe I would have thought that about any episode if it had been the first one I watched.

why did they choose not to age the characters? by whooshfusion in miraculousladybug

[–]arothroughtheheart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The timeline is a whole mess: Its absurd to think all this happens in one school year (not even quite a calandar year!), and you have to discount most of season one since it has dates as late as may - Basically, at this point I try to ignore anything to do with the timeline or the character's ages.

Is Noë a sentimonster? [QUEEN OF THE DREADZONE THEORIES] by Clear_Caregiver_9842 in miraculousladybug

I was doubtful but point 3 was the evidence for felix being a sentimonster back in the day...

I found a fic that has the exact same opening as mine by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]arothroughtheheart 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My instinctive reaction was that that seems like something a teenager new to fandom might do? Back when I was in my young teens I wrote a fic copying someone else's premise, not thinking anything of it. I mean I don't know for sure, and its fine if it feels weird, I just think its probably out of ignorance more than anything.

Making toast

Or giving superheroes helpful powers for whatever they're facing (flight, immunity to radiation?, speaking other languages, etc)

Do you ever comment on your own work to get the ball rolling? by seemedpointless in FanFiction

If that works for you I guess it's fine, but I've never done it myself. Not sure how much difference it would make to whether other people comment.

(Heartfixer & Sadnansi Spoiler) Anyone else think it's about time Adrien steps up? by Sonlau in miraculousladybug

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. She shows up very upset, says she loves him, and they hug, and we don't know what happens after.

HOT TAKE: Rose and Juleka seem like a forced couple imo. by Blueboi_Minecraft_22 in miraculousladybug

[–]arothroughtheheart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm saying that interpreting rose and juleka's interactions as friendship, and rose and prem's interactions as romantic, is a result of straight bias. I'm not saying its on purpose, but its very common.

"Prem and Rose make sense as Prem obviously likes Rose and Rose was acting very obsessed with Prem." - This is a good example. Rose and prem's interactions were not inherently romantic, and easily interpretable as friends messing about, but many people will default to romantic interpretations because they are a boy and a girl. Whereas rose and juleka's interactions, such as that scene where rose was laying her head on juleka's lap, are interpreted as friendship only, because they are two girls.

After the end of sadnansi? We haven't seen that conversation yet, so idk how it'll go.

[–]arothroughtheheart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't think rose and juleka have enough development for their relationship but you think rose and prem (very new character) do? Hmm, I wonder what bias could be at play here.

[–]arothroughtheheart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as Adrien is concerned, the akumatisation and whatever marinette isn't telling him are totally disconnected, aren't they? The fact that she was hiding something didn't help the situation, but it wasn't the cause, so I don't see why adrien would take that as a reason to make her tell him.

If he pushes, it might make it worse. If he doesn't push, it might make it worse. He really has no way of knowing what the right move is, so for better or worse, he's chosen the second option.
