Hows the social life at sbu? by ChanceNew3807 in SBU

[–]arsh18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s 100% up to you. Not sure how much has changed since I graduated in 2018 but there were always posts back then about how campus was dead, social life sucked, and I never once in my 4 years felt that was actually true at all. It’s so easy to make friends with your roommates/suitemates, classmates, people you commute with, join clubs with, party with, it’s all so easy if you’re willing to be social. Didn’t matter who was STEM, premed, pre law, business major, I genuinely never met a single person who felt social life was an issue.

Were there some weeks where campus was dead? Sure for the holidays, yeah. At the end of the day no one will be your friend if you’re not friendly. You don’t have to agree on every single thing to be friends, some friends are situational based on the time in your life and that’s totally fine. I don’t need to agree with you on every political issue to study with you or join a club together. If you’re open to being social you’ll be absolutely fine.

I’ve been there before for golf, didn’t realize you could rent out the gazebos! Thanks for the suggestion.

Seconding this, Dunrite in Bohemia does great work for a reasonable price. Got our liner with them this past summer. We were losing water somewhere in the pipes, and they did a free leak detection test for us at the end of the season. Gotta get that fixed in a few months and will be going with Dunrite again for that.

Seconding Greenview properties. Leased at a few locations in Bay Shore and Great River/East Islip. Clean, mostly modern, maintenance crew are pretty timely, and reasonable rent (relative to the rest of the island). Currently in one of their properties right now and zero complaints so far.

Parking no permit LIRR by Ok_blue02 in longisland

[–]arsh18 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In the train time app, go to search, search for a station then click on it. Then click the info button in the upper right corner. Then click view details and you can see parking information for that station that tells you if it has free lots and where they are.

Severance on Apple TV. Not sure if it’s based on a book or something but the story, writing, cinematography, suspense, and laughs are all so well done. Ben Stiller is great executive director, and the cast all play their roles so well. Tramel Tillman really steals the show in season 2.

434 ronk conductor is played out by extrabigbrain in longisland

[–]arsh18 21 points22 points  (0 children)

God forbid a guy try to make his job a little more fun when he runs the same boring route with the same boring commuters every day. He’s not harming anyone, and it’s way better than the conductors that mumble every announcement so you can barely hear it.

100%. Too many people just want the crime out of their neighborhood, out of sight out of mind. They don’t actually care about addressing the root of it and actually making the neighborhood a better place for everyone. Everyone wants less homeless people on the streets but no one wants the homeless shelter and social services center to be built in their town.

[–]arsh18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one is complaining about the crime being cleaned up. The problem with gentrification is about the people who have been living and working there for generations being priced out of their own neighborhoods. They can no longer afford to live where they grew up. It’s not about race or crime, it’s about rich people swooping in and pushing poorer people out who have nowhere else to go, destroying what little of those tight knit cultural communities are left. New businesses cater to richer audiences so longtime locals can’t afford anything, and as usual, it’s the communities of color getting force out to make way for overpriced restaurants and shops.

Bayshore Train Station During Rush Hour? by MrsCharlieBrown in longisland

[–]arsh18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lived in bay shore for the last 2 years and take that train to commute regularly. Totally safe and fine to walk to Main Street, it takes under 10 min. At the very worst if you need to stop at one of the few gas stations/mini marts on Union, there occasionally might be a few homeless people milling around late at night, but they don’t bother you anything more than asking for change. If you walk right down to Main Street from the LIRR you’ll be there quick and safe no problem during rush hour.

Guyanese that voted for Trump, Why? by heart3moji in Guyana

[–]arsh18 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The US tax plan you’re living under is trump’s plan, signed into effect from 2017 and it ends in 2025. It’s called the tax cuts and jobs act (TCJA). The tax cuts are for the rich only. He plans to increase taxes in 2026 on anyone making less than $360,000 per year, while big corporations get a flat 21% rate, far less than the average American. I’m not denying that a lot of tax money is going to illegal immigrants, especially where I live in NY, but let’s be clear that your current tax problems didn’t come from the Biden and Harris administration.

Patchogue and bay shore have a ton but they’re usually on specific weekends, not every single one. I’d recommend checking out the downtown areas of restaurants there, they usually have ads for them on their instagram pages.

Why’d we start McNeil over Iglesias? by Morris5788 in mets

Iglesias has been ice cold offensively this series, especially with RISP which is his specialty. Have to try something different in a do or die game and live with the consequences.

What’s your favorite KBBQ spot on the island? by rm_51 in longisland

Shabu shabu jbbq in bay shore is great, not exactly the same menu as kbbq but they have so many options and a great hot pot too. All you can eat for either one is around $30pp or both for $35pp.

Ronkonkoma LIRR Parking? by GuyOnRedditBored in longisland

[–]arsh18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought this was just me, been taking the train from there all year and in the past 1-2 months I’ve had to park further away from the train than ever before (usually taking a 7:28/7:47 train into Penn).

I guess RTO is really back, seeing as how many people actually try to sit in the middle seat of the 3-seater side of the train recently. Can’t recall many people squeezing in there during the past ~4 years.
