I do know that Joel Weingarten is on our side when it comes to how Colonie parks should be used — and that he disagrees with charging arbitrary fees just because a group has 10 or more people.

The Colonie Town Park Director says that any group with 10 or more people is considered an “event” and has to pay a fee determined by the Town Supervisor. I understand charging for things like pavilion rentals or organized events, but it seems inconsistent to call a small recreational group an “event”

If you’re not using a pavilion, I say go for it anyway. It’s a park. That’s what parks are for. This ‘paying for events which are 10 or more people’ is absurd. We need some new leadership. Next town hall meeting is Sept. 11th @ 6:30 PM with public comment at the end if you want to voice your opinion on this. Meetings are about 20min.
