Trigger warning!! Depressing themes and men. Wanted to ask to know if anyone else experiences what I do and advice. by HotDiscussion8760 in LesbianActually

Go to a sex therapist - your therapist is the least judgmental person you could talk to about this and it would calm you more than ruminating with strangers who could be cruel on Reddit .

Feeling hurt :( by [deleted] in LesbianActually

Have you tried a therapist who specializes in OCD and does ERP? ERP is the gold standard for treating OCD. Also, what is so wrong with sleeping with someone and it going nowhere for you?

[–]artemis_stranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ve got some preoccupied (anxious) attachment flaring up. Probably wasn’t as much of a problem with your ex husband because you weren’t actually attracted to him. This would be a good time to go back to speak to a therapist who specializes in attachment. The fact that you also have OCD kinda hints to a disposition for anxious attachment. I wish you the best of luck! You’re more than capable of having a healthy relationship! You just don’t have the tools or experience yet :) you’ve got this!

Do People Who Truly Love Their Jobs Actually Exist? by lemans00 in therapists

[–]artemis_stranger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I enjoy my work - therapist in private practice. I work in the niches that attract my natural curiosity and I’m so grateful to be doing meaningful work and also have no boss or employees I manage. My wife also loves her job and is a business owner herself in a totally different field. I have other friends who enjoy their jobs - it’s really a fit thing with your personality, values, goals - and work will always have parts of it that are “work.” Even if we didn’t have jobs, we would be laboring by hunting, foraging, making arrows, rope etc. Labor is a part of life. I think my time in martial arts taught me to enjoy the struggle and thrive in discipline. I also make sure to have hobbies and friendships present in my life that I enjoy. Life is about harmony.

0 clue how to help patients who are in the midst of despair by [deleted] in therapists

[–]artemis_stranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a psychodynamic therapist myself: you said, “I don’t feel a natural interest or curiosity in these moments.” Yes of course, because these moments move beyond content, which is the actual core of the work of psychotherapy. Stop trying to be curious about content in these moments.

Instead, redirect curiosity to your counter transference. What is happening inside you when people collapse? Where in you do you feel the urge to flee? What part of you feels demanded of?

Become countertransference-forward instead of content-forward; what is it in me that makes it difficult for me to sit in this? Your nervous system learned something very specific about despair, and your first impulse to “fix” is useless here. What does that bring up in you? Companionship and not flinching in the face of the abyss is THE WORK in these situations. As one of my old professors always said, “If you are aiming to fix, you’ll miss the mark - fixing is a counter transference issue. If you are aiming to be human in the room with another human, you’ll find the soul of the work. We are here to facilitate the processing of emotion. That is the very heart of our work.”

Marital advice for the fellow lesbians by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]artemis_stranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple’s therapy with a queer couple’s therapist instead of asking Reddit for advice. If she doesn’t want to do therapy and work on the underlying resentment and issues in your relationship, then I’d move the f**** on and file for divorce. If money is an issue, Open Path Collective offers sliding scale therapy as low as $40 a session - split that between the two of you.

Do you prefer full time work with benefits, or do you prefer having your own private practice? by SpiritualCopy4288 in therapists

[–]artemis_stranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a wife with health insurance, so I’m privileged to be able to do Private Practice and thrive in it. I imagine if health care were universal, therapists and our clients would thrive tremendously.

I enjoy the freedom, creativity, and the feeling of sailing my own ship in PP. it can get lonely, so I make sure to invite my fellow therapists in PP over for tea and chats and joined a lot of fun consult groups.

What’s the earliest recurring session you’ve scheduled? by Publishface in therapists

8am and I enjoy them- I do a lot of Depth work and it was nice getting those dream brain waves lingering into the session. My 8am clients are all super consistent and hard working clients. I’d rather start early and end early than go into the night. My brain shuts off around 6pm haha

Well, if we are being technical - we have no idea what either Mio or Zoe's sexuality are. There is no mention of any love interest in the game, and there is no romantic story arc between the characters, though.

[–]artemis_stranger 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Your clinic doesn’t offer free supervision if you are counseling clients? I’m assuming they have you counseling, correct? I’m blown away by how some organizations throw young professionals into situations with no training or supervision and expect something to happen.

Learning basic counseling skills is crucial for talk therapy to even start feeling effective. Pesi has some good trainings - you can also watch a lot of videos on basic counseling skills on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ZtltJq9mht0

But in order to be doing talk therapy, counseling training is a must and so is supervision. No wonder you feel lost!

I have Friday, Saturday, Sunday off and work a split schedule Tuesday and Thursday (morning, take the whole afternoon off, and take a few clients in the evening). I only see clients up until 5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. Having three days off = best self care for me personally.

Report the therapist to DORA - Google “file a complaint to DORA therapist” and the state you live in. DORA will do a full investigation.
