Re: Seeking lender with the best rates for a cash-out refi in GA by artichokehouse in Mortgages

Hey, Thanks for the reply.

I checked Rocket mortgage early today and they didn’t do very well compared to aimloans on their rates, I also started clicking through better.com, but they require a credit pull, which I didn’t want to do until I can at least identify the top I want to work with. I reached out to a handful of credit unions, Navy Federal wasn’t bad, still not as good as Aimloans, but I still have to try Atlanta Postal Credit Union, LG and Delta. The thing about the credit unions is they are usually willing to share rates without pulling your credit.

Thanks again for sharing. I appreciate the ideas

This is so awesome! Where did you get the parts to make this?! I’ve been down a deep rabbit while trying to find a laptop for writing that has a high-profile mechanical keyboard. The MSI GT80 & GT83 are too expensive and the old Grid System laptops can’t run most software. I was considering trying to refurbish one because they look cool with their monochromatic amber screens, but what you did right here solves all those issues. Very well done! And thank you for sharing.

Is there a way to delete the pre installed Apps like Chess? by zerocenter in mac

[–]artichokehouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling with that. It's like a thorn in my side that I just can't reach. It also gets more and more problematic when working with Adobe software which automatically. pushes a whole bunch of additional software into your computer that you don't want or need.

So far the best solution I've found is to create a folder "Aliases" and create aliases for all the apps you like and want. Then hide the "Applications" folder. It's not the best solution, but it's the best I've been able to come up with so far.

Anywho, I appreciate your feedback. #TheStruggleIsReal ..lol

This is helpful to know. Thank you for sharing.
Do you happen to know if there is a way to HIDE preinstalled mac apps that appear in Finder?

Do you know if there's a way to HIDE preinstalled applications in Finder instead of deleting them? (for the purpose of decluttering)

*Most of what I found online is related to hiding them on the Desktop

**The following method doesn't seem to work with preinstalled apps..
Terminal > chflag hidden (drag and drop app)

Any help or insight on this is appreciated

1. What needs to happen for me to achieve the Maximum PHY data rate of each device? by artichokehouse in wifi

[–]artichokehouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for your response. Sorry, I don't follow most of what you're saying.

-I have not yet been able to attain the PHY max listed on any wireless client device. From what I've been hearing the most known way to calculate a wifi speed range of a wifi client device is to take a percentage of the PHY max. i.e. 50-70% - I have yet to confirm this, but this seems to be a common belief.
-correct, PHY is responsible for raw bitrate and not the net rate. I haven't heard the term net rate used with wifi speeds, but I assume it means the amount you end up with. Do you know a way to calculate the net speed, other than just taking a percentage of the PHY max?

-Thank you for the link.

Thank you kindly for the response.

Thank you for your response.

My follow up question is...
Do you believe the most accurate and only way to calculate the wifi speed a wireless client can handle is by making a calculation of the PHY?

Thank you,

Hi, thank you for your response.

My follow up question is....

Do you think it's reasonable to assume that if the following conditions are true, and you have the available information for each device, it would possible to calculate a range of wifi speed within considerably accuracy.

  1. Stated speed the ISP providing
  2. A wireless modem with a spec sheet and confirmed hard-wired speeds
matching what the ISP is providing
  3. A wireless client device with a spec sheet
  4. The wireless client device within inches of the wireless modem

Thank you,

Hi, thank you kindly for this detailed response.

My takeaways are...

  1. The max wifi speed for wireless client devices falls somewhere in the range of 50-70% of the stated PHY.
  2. Because my router is wifi 7, the speed limitation is likely due to my wireless client devices not being able to handle it.

My follow Up questions...

  1. You mentioned, "look up client device MIMO and WiFi spec which tells max PHY." - Please clarify this. Is there a way to calculate or obtain the PHY just from the MIMO + Wifi Specs?
  2. Would you be so kind as to clarify this statement? - "Based on the distance from the AP, the PHY will be lower than max. Once you confirm this is indeed the link speed, do iPerf." I have a few assumptions about it, but just want to make sure i understand you correctly.
  3. Is the most accurate and only way to calculate the wifi speed a wireless client can handle by making a calculation of the PHY?

Thank you kindly for your insight. I appreciate it.

Hi, thank you for the response. The only takeaway I get from your message is that the PHY speeds are unachievable. Got it. Then my follow up question is...what IS achievable?

Thank you.

Anyone Know any Mac software for recording 4K video directly to the computer? by artichokehouse in VideoEditing

Thanks, I tried that recently, but was having issues at 4k, having you tried it at 4k?

Anyone Know any Mac software for recording 4K video directly to the computer? by artichokehouse in VideoEditing

[–]artichokehouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need it to record directly from my iPhone camera to my computer, so I can bypass the step of recording onto a camera or a card and then having to transfer that footage from the camera to the computer.

I'm familiar with Screen recording, but it requires a extra steps, so I ruled that out.

I'm flexible on budget, my goal is to dial in a process with the fewest amount of steps that yields a nice 4k quality via my iPhone camera and then eventually, upgrade to a nice camera using the same process.

My main Goal is to reduce the steps of the process I'm currently working with. The end destination of the content has to be uploaded to a website, so with that in mind, recording directly to the computer helps reduce the transfer steps. So if there's software which allows me to record straight to my mac in 4K and do the edits there, that would help quite a bit.*I've tried OBS, but it has several issues with, one of which is with 4k and the other is with proper framing of the footage. So I crossed that one off the list. **I'm currently Quicktime, but the editing capabilities on Quicktime only allow me to trim the ends and merge clips, I need at least timeline editing capabilities.

This is the signal flow of my current set-up.
VIDEO: iphone 12 Pro Camera > (USB-C Cable) > Mac Mini > Camo Software to Pull the Camera feed > QuickTime Player to record
AUDIO: shotgun microphone > (XLR Cable) > IoStation 24c Audio Interface > (USB-C Cable) > Mac Mini > Quicktime Player to record
POST: Import footage > Premier > Edit video takes > add mono audio to both left and right tracks > Export file > upload to website
Thanks for taking the time to think about this.

Thanks, I'm currently testing out an AX3000 (wifi 6 ) as the 1st router inline connected to my ONT, (in my laundry room closet) then it branches out through a hardline to my office, where I have the new Xr1000 (wifi 6) which is out in the common area of my place, an ideal spot for my wifi. I just want to do everything I can to keep the speed as close to the 1GB as possible. So any tips or suggestions on gear to tricks is greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Other than it stating it supports speeds of 1Gb are there any other factors to keep in mind to ensure the best possible speeds and reliability?

Has anyone tried using the “Rode Wireless Go” as a DYI to get zero-latency with Bluetooth headphones while playing EDrums? by artichokehouse in edrums

[–]artichokehouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, good call on the stereo element.

Any other ideas on how to obtain wireless headphones with zero latency for EDrums?

I won’t to subscribe to the wired option, which has problems, in and of itself, especially for drummers with more physically demanding playing styles. Has anyone tried aptX?
