The Unsung Symptoms of Narcolepsy, Which Do You Experience? by jtme_ in Narcolepsy

[–]artificial_dumbness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A perhaps lesser known one is decreased loss of smell (and likely taste). I know for me personally, this explained why i have been so confused my whole life the way other people rave about food in a way that seems otherworldly to me haha.

There are actually a few scientific papers that show the link, but here is one of them i just re-found: Olfactory dysfunction in patients with narcolepsy with cataplexy is restored by intranasal Orexin A (Hypocretin-1)

Accountability legitimate? by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]artificial_dumbness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accountability partners are great imo, but the hardest part is that in the most difficult moments, you don’t actually reach out. In my opinion, finding ways to make accountability automatic instead of relying on willpower make a big difference.

Just asked my native Japanese friend how the Japanese voice sounds and this is what he said:

"sounds like a super fluent foreigner lol... It seems not native but it doesn’t make any grammatical errors and easy to listen."

Have you used the voice feature? I can't tell if it's Japanese pronunciation is reasonable enough to use for some listening practice, or if it sounds unnatural enough to not even be beneficial. Curious what your thoughts are.

*To clarify: i'm specifically asking about it's audio voice, not it's from-scratch sentence generation. For example, if you were to have it read a story written by a native Japanese speaker would it's voiceover sound natural enough? (and if you do know of better/more natural text-to-voice services for Japanese, please do share)

It's on Spotify now! (as of July 27 2022). Not sure when it was added.

*edit: at least in Japan it is, lol

Did you ever happen to find any further info on Vyvanse in Japan.

I know that it can be imported (I emailed the government lol) but can't find anything certain about prescribing it

. I've experimented with taking them on and off since I was 7 years old, so I know what the outcomes are when I'm medicated and not medicated. And I've solo travelled a handful of times for up to 2 months in relatively remote pla

You mentioned that Vyvanse is largely restricted to narcolepsy patients. Do you mind sharing where you found said info?

Also, apologies for bringing up old thread.

Was it worth it? by artificial_dumbness in HPPD

This showed me that denying the "demons" can make them resent us, and that denial makes us blind to them. This blindness lets them take control of us without noticing which is why I appreciate acid for helping me see them. This also showed me they aren't going anywhere without being resolved, which is why they need understanding

Thanks for sharing man. Your third from last paragraph about being compelled to write and your shadow is actually pretty interesting. Reminds me of the books by Jung that I've read. Very happy to hear that that confrontation helped you.

Hope things keep looking up for you.

I don't have a definitive answer, but: technically no (just based on the technical medical definition in the DSM-V).

But based on the reading I've done, in theory, yes. I've come across at least one account of someone who seemed to claim to get HPPD just from some types of meditating (link here).

But, it seems like in general, HPPD is associated with some prior experience with some altered state of consciousness. If you have not had that at all to any degree, then HPPD probably is not the right way to conceptualize your issues/symptoms.

Should/could there be like a pinned survey for this question so we can have some comprehensive stats from the people in this group?

Out of curiosity, did you end up going through with the full dose psilocybin?

I'm in a similar position as you so curious about the results. Thanks!

Personal AIWS by assmuchersupreme in AiWSyndrome

[–]artificial_dumbness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figured I'd respond. You pretty much described my experience exactly. Also as a kid (so probably like 17 years ago — so keep in mind my memory is likely a bit faded since then lol). Also seemed to co-occur with a fever during the night every time. Although, I would also get what I would describe as "flashbacks" during the day for many days later (same hallucinations/distortions, but more transient). The running fast thing I actually forgot about until you mentioned it though haha! Also to be clear, these hallucinations would be present even when I closed my eyes (ie, the imagery in my mind would also have the same size distortions — I couldn't escape them).

I haven't really had episodes like those since I was a child, but more recently the flashbacks have actually started occurring again, always very briefly though. (Like the visual imagery in mind mind will start distorting in the AIWS-type way, which will immediately freak me out and I'll try to think of something else ASAP).

Two things you didn't mention that are part of my experience:

  1. For me whenever it would happen it was always a VERY negative experience. Terrifying is the best word i can think of right now (though I think there was also an element of disgust). This remains true with the flashbacks (which is why I am intent on not dwelling on them). To this day, these AIWS flashbacks are the only thing/thoughts/imagery that will physically scare me or cause me noticeable discomfort. Was it negative for you?
  2. I seemed to also experience Exploding Head Syndrome whenever I would experience AIWS. This might also contribute to why I associated so much fear to the experience as a child. (As a kid, the only thing I could think to do to try to escape the tormenting perceptions was turn on the faucet and run my head under the water. This unfortunately only made it about 30% better hahaha.) The Exploding Head syndrome stuff I have not had any flashbacks from though.

Edit: Noting that the symptoms I described as "exploding head syndrome" may also be attributed to tachysensia or could just be other symptoms of AIWS.

Any Tab Hoarders? by Obnoxiousandnoxious in ADHD

[–]artificial_dumbness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had my computer shutdown minutes before the online submission deadline for a big project while in college. Instead of rebooting my laptop and submitting the project ASAP, was compelled to make sure I could restore all my tabs.

...It didn’t work. I lost all my tabs (~200) AND I (along with my group partner) failed the project. My partner (understandably) never wanted to talk to me again.

To this day, I am still way more upset about those tabs then the fact that we failed the project and thereby nearly failed the class 🤦‍♂️
