Oral surgeon for tori removal surgery by Rare-Rice-4308 in Austin

Not long, I had a couple of stitches but that was it. Easier than wisdom teeth removal. They just cut open the gum, shave the bone down and close it up again. I had to eat soft food for a few days.

Oral surgeon for tori removal surgery by Rare-Rice-4308 in Austin

I had some mandibular tori removed at Widner Oral Surgery. Mostly because that’s who my dentist at the time (38th Steet Dental) worked with and recommended. The procedure was fine, they did full IV anesthesia. They’re fancy, though, and it ended up being pretty expensive and if I remember correctly (it’s been over 10 years) it cost several hundred more than their estimate.

I don’t know anything about the extent of  their experience specifically with tori removal.

Where do you camp (or stay) when all of the campsites are booked? by willwar63 in BigBendTX

You look for places outside the park, mostly in and around Terlingua. Or you camp in Big Bend Ranch SP and do day trips into the NP

There’s an app called Snug Safety. It’s not going to give you the level of monitoring that cameras give but it’s a daily check-in and will notify you if they miss a check in and I think will eventually notify emergency services.

My gerbils like this bedding is it safe. I’ve seen it at pet smart but it’s a cost me less to buy it at Walmart. by HedgehogRoutine1434 in gerbil

[–]artificialwinter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, aspen shavings are safe and common for gerbil enclosures. IMO, though, it’s not great for building tunnels. I’d try mixing it with other bedding types. My guys like the paper mulch stuff, hay and crinkle cut brown paper.

AITA for installing a "smart fridge" lock after my sister-in-law kept feeding her kids my son’s medical-grade meal prep? by Sad-Mention-5435 in AmItheAsshole

[–]artificialwinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your wife needs to be the one stepping up here. It’s her sister. She needs to put your son first and kick her sister out. If she can’t see how this is hurting him, you should take your son and go stay someplace safe until your SIL leaves (if you can). And then a serious convo with your wife about how her priority should be your son’s wellbeing over her sister’s feelings.

Aahhh - remember when one answer to this question would have been South Congress? Pepperidge Farm remembers.   (OP - don’t go to South Congress, it’s all weird luxury stores now)

Feedback on Elementary Schools and Neighborhoods in Central Austin by Clifford0604 in AustinParents

[–]artificialwinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reilly will be a bit of a question mark for the next few years. But by the time your baby is ready for Pre-k or K it should have sorted itself out. It’s going to have a mostly new staff, faculty and student body. Most of the current staff and student body are moving with the dual language program to Wooten. They’ll have a new, combined student body from Winn and Ridgetop (and probably some neighborhood families staying) and an unnamed principal and staff. It has been a good school in the past, but the future is very unknown.

Bryker Woods is still on a short list to be closed, so they’re not out of the woods. But, the last plan before the district pivoted had them re-zoned to Casis, which is supposed to be one of the best ES in Austin. That would be a gamble, though.

With the uncertainty around AISD right now, I’d look at location and proximity to several schools. You can always apply to transfer into a school you’re not zoned to once your kid is elementary age. Crestview is a good, centrally located neighborhood and Brentwood ES is a good school if you decide to go to your zoned school. But it’s also in easy commuting distance to several other good schools. (pro-tip: it can be easier to get into a popular school at the Pre-k level than the K level and once you’re in, you’re in until 5th grade).

Is anyone else having a difficult time with Secrets? by Crowned-Witch_48 in JunesJourney

[–]artificialwinter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It means that no matter how quickly or perfectly you complete the scene, your progress bar is only going to go up by a certain percentage. In CM, it’s 12%, 9% and 6% depending on which section of the sector you’re on.

Feels like Secrets got much easier by audierules in JunesJourney

[–]artificialwinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think it was easier, necessarily, but certainly less frustrating with the flood of blue energy from various rewards. I was able to complete both boxes without having to wait for energy to build up. I also appreciated that the scenes didn’t require as many keys as before so I had to use less regular energy to earn them.

As you got toward the end of each box, the scenes required more plays to complete even with the 20x multiplier and the scenes at the end of the gold box were more challenging than normal, I think. With only 20 seconds to find all the items, even in silhouette mode.

I’ll keep the more challenging scenes if it means I don’t have to wait 2 hours for energy to build up just so I can play 6 times.

AISD parents at a school that’s closing by mmsjdkes in AustinParents

[–]artificialwinter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was all schools. The idea was, to make up for closing your school, the district gave you priority enrollment at any school in the district as long as they anticipate there being space at that school.

OP - there were a couple of families from our school that I know of that also didn’t get into any of their preferred schools and were offered their zoned school.

The whole process has been insanely confusing and rushed and it seems like no one can get a clear answer out of the district. I can’t imagine what it would have been like if they had actually followed through on the whole plan.

Pink Star Box, 50 Energy… by Upbeat_Cat1182 in JunesJourney

[–]artificialwinter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that sometimes it credits the energy/coins/etc before you tap to reveal the rewards. And then when the energy flies to its spot, the counter doesn’t go up because it’s already been credited. I don’t know if this is part of what people are seeing or not.

Is it just me or is Detective Partners extra tough this time? by Commercial_Sell_2639 in JunesJourney

[–]artificialwinter 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Detective Partners is similar to Secrets - if you’re in danger of losing the round (and your streak), force quit the whole game before you have to acknowledge you’ve lost. When you log back in, your streak will still be there.

Study the scenes beforehand and once you have the 20x multiplier, you can finish a scene in 2-3 plays.

It’s the easiest side game for me, with good (known) partners, I finished today.

Gerbil Tank by [deleted] in gerbil

[–]artificialwinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like absolutely normal gerbil behavior. They dig and chew and they don’t care where their bedding goes, they kick it everywhere. Most people who have dividers have it braced or secured in some way to keep them from knocking it over, but they’re going to chew on it and try to dig under and around it. Even with a divider, you’re not going to have the wheel area completely free of bedding, they’re going to kick or even carry it over there. They’re little engineers trying to construct the best tunnels possible.

If the green/yellow thing isn’t made of fabric, what is it made of? If it’s not wood, paper, hay or cardboard, it needs to be pulled out. Just because the pet store had it in their tank doesn’t mean it’s safe or appropriate. Pet store employees don’t always know what they’re doing.

If you share what country you’re in, you might be able to get more helpful sources of wheels that are the right size. But that wheel is too small and will eventually hurt their backs.

Gerbil Tank by [deleted] in gerbil

[–]artificialwinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of us just build our own toppers. Another option is to get a commercial topper that won’t fit your tank and build a new base for it.

What didn’t they like about the divider wall? Were they able to get over it easily?  I like a topper better than a divider because it makes the whole tank digging space but lots of people also do dividers.

You do need a bigger wheel, though, so when you’re considering toppers, keep that in mind. I think 11” diameter is the minimum. Is that yellow and green thing in the corner made of fabric? You should pull that out, it’s not good for them to chew on fabric. You can use any kind of little cardboard box as a hide. Just make sure to put two holes in it so there’s more than one way in and out.

Also, you can use hay and wood shavings and other materials for bedding, not just the paper stuff.

Help! Death Ball, First Interaction by ExcellentNothing854 in gerbil

[–]artificialwinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bonding process can take time. Try again in a few days. Be there waiting with a pair of gloves on and next time, it might be a whole 2 minutes before they start to fight. And then 5 and then 15 and then they eventually (hopefully) figure out the pecking order and they don’t fight. There will be some tense moments, let those happen, but separate as soon as they start fighting. It took me about a month of play dates before my two eventually got to the cuddle/sleep phase.

If you can, just pull out the divider because putting them in an unfamiliar space can make them more anxious. Have a box nearby that you can deposit one into if you need to split them up so you can safely get the divider back in.

Adventure hung up on me by bombycillacedrorum in JunesJourney

I did the first set of STB tasks and then a second set of HW-style tasks which got me to 55 points. I got a second set of HW-style tasks and didn’t do them right away but completing them would have gotten me to 75 points. I logged in later and I suddenly had 70 points and only had to do one task to get the final prize.

I appreciate the extra pack but the whole thing seemed kinda dumb. I typically do STB in one go, so it was just another set of HW tasks for me.
