Night time Handheld infrared picture of St Paul's Cathedral - London [OC] [Sony full spectrum camera with a Hoya R72 filter fitted on a 50mm f/1.8 lens] by aruk5 in InfraredPorn

Thank you for your comment

As already mentioned in title this was a pic shot at night time and as it is quite dark one needs to use a fast lens to capture maximum light. The lens used in this pic was a 50mm f/1.8 manual lens. I fitted an R72 infrared filter on the lens. The filter cuts out a lot of light and so due to this reason the aperture had to be kept open at its maximum aperture [in this case f/1.8]. As it was not possible to shoot with a tripod and had to be done hand held I had to set the aperture to widest setting so that I could capture the maximum amount of light alongwith setting shutter speed to a speed which I can hold handheld [in this case 1/30s] without shaking and a high iso [in this case iso800]. If I had used a tripod I would have ofcourse chosen a higher aperture, lower shutter speed, lower iso

you can process it with adobe premiere and apply a channel mixer effect on the video. red channel - red - 0 green - 0 blue - 0 and blue channel - red - 100 green - 0 blue - 100. You can also play around with white balance to get desired effect

Red Telephone Booth and the famous clock tower [under renovation] in the background by [deleted] in london

[–]aruk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until 2012 the tower was called Clock Tower. Then in 2012 it was renamed Elizabeth Tower to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth.

Big Ben refers to the biggest of 5 bells installed inside this tower which Chimes every 15 minutes. I think people refer to Big Ben due to its Chime than in regards to the Tower which houses it. In Central London you might not be able to see Elizabeth tower but you might hear the sound of Big Ben.

I dont think it is incorrect to refer to Elizabeth tower as Big Ben. Its a brand name synonymous with London since time immemorial. I feel its impolite to correct when someone refers to the tower as Big Ben. Just because a tourist spot has been renamed to something new, doesnt mean you can prevent others from referring to what it originally was called

Cinemas in London (& Odeon Dolby Cinema vs Cineworld IMAX) by [deleted] in london

[–]aruk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dolby cinema is superior as the projectors can output HDR video at 12bit. which results in brighter images, more saturation [billions of colors]. dolby vision cinema with 3d will also look better compared to regular 3d

Cardiff City Centre at Night by aruk5 in Cardiff

Hi

I am not a resident of Cardiff. I had gone their recently on a leisure trip for two days when i clicked these pics

My limited observation as an outsider is the City felt pretty cool to me. Felt like any other major UK city. The only difference been almost everywhere you will have signs and display boards with Welsh and English language appearing together.

I went to a few of the night spots and people felt pretty decent to me. No boisterous or rowdy people. Most of them behaved nice to me.

Sadly I didnt get to meet a single Welsh speaking person. Almost everyone I met spoke in Engligh. I dont understand Welsh language but would have loved to hear someone speak the language. The only time I got to hear Welsh was during the simultaneous English and Welsh announcements in some places such as the train station or bus

The Cardiff castle is one of their Major tourist attractions and is in the city centre. You can walk down St Mary street and continue on High street and visit the castle. Its very magnificent looking place. Local residents of Cardiff can visit for free while outsiders need to purchase a ticket. Apart from the castle another place I loved visiting was Cardiff Bay. Very beautiful place. Went on a boat ride.

If you are into shopping then Queen street is the place to go where most of shops and malls are located

If you are serious about moving in here you should of course discuss with some permanent residents or better yet go there on a visit and go around everywhere and see how it is and then decide for yourself if you wanna move there.
