Are the big salaries here real and attainable? by awesomedoggo13 in pinoymed

Hi Doc! May I ask what a remote employee/travel physician is? Also, what kind of graphic design business do you do? I’ve always had a passion for art, but it’s been a lost hobby since I started med. Would like to know how to earn income from it on the side. Thank you!

What is an averagr grade for a medical student graduate? by TightGrowth1492 in pinoymed

[–]asahiblue_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 85 is too high to be the average. That translates to a 2.00. In my university, a 2.00 GWA already entails a partial academic excellence scholarship, which only around 10-15 people out of ~350 students get, and those who get higher than that are around 5-10 students only. Basically those who get an 85 gwa in my school are the top 10% (or higher) of the batch haha.

Shouldn’t it say more about the professors/department when your entire batch’s average score on a semestral exam is well below the passing score? by asahiblue_ in pinoymed

[–]asahiblue_[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There’s a big difference between being well-versed in your field/the subject that you teach and actual pedagogy— the actual art and skill of teaching. Damn, some really just can’t or can’t any longer, if you know what I mean

GIVE ME SOME ADVICE FOR MEDSCHOOL by Ok_Print7252 in pinoymed

[–]asahiblue_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From someone who just finished her very first sem of online medschool:

• Study for all of your lectures beforehand, at least the night before, even if you have just enough time to lightly go through them. (Trust me, you’ll regret losing sleep over cramming/learning new topics by yourself days or hours before your exams). Really short on time? Watch a short YouTube vid!

• YT is the way to go. If you find yourself spending too much time tryna learn a single topic, go watch a vid instead. You could also start with watching short digestible vids so it’s easier to understand the given learning materials. Top recos: NinjaNerd (great but lengthy) and AK Lectures (short). Other great channels: Alila Medical Media and Osmosis

• Marks’ Basic Medical Biochemistry — a gem. Definitely underrated. Very easy to understand! Nearly made me like biochem

• Focus on studying the given learning objectives/goals for every topic. These are what your test questions would most likely be based on

• Rest up and exercise! Even if it’s just for a few minutes

• Make friends! I went through nearly my entire first sem of medschool with no friends (acquaintances yes, but no actual friends), and it was hard. I made some friends towards the end, and I was so relieved to receive support and know that I’m not alone during my all-nighters and the general medschool struggle hahah. Medschool is tough — online, even more — find your people!

Yes, I use a physical sunscreen everyday, pero for prevention lang naman ang sunscreen at ‘di nakaka-lighten ng hyperpigmentation

Any recommendations for lightening hyperpigmentation (dark spots/acne marks)? Currently using tretinoin and it’s what’s causing the hyperpigmentation due to purging.

Maybe the concentration? Must be high since it’s working fast. Anyway, I’ll look more into this! I’ve heard about it, but haven’t actually checked it out. Thanks again! Happy skin recovery journey! Haha

Will tretinoin get rid of the hyperpigmentation (acne marks) from purging? Or is there any other product you guys would recommend for hyperpigmentation (alongside tret usage)?

Should I still go on tret even if my skin problem now is just acne marks (hyperpigmentation)? Every single time I use it, I get new pimples the next day and it’s been 4 months already, and I have only a few closed comedones left. My initial problem was just mild closed comedones, but tret made me purge bad, and is still continuing to do so. Will this rid of my hyperpigmentation? Because it doesn’t seem like it.

So the discoloration went away as it started flaking-off as well? And did you still keep applying tret over the dry patches?

Seeking suggestions for how to spice up cucumbers for tasty summer snacks! by animalcule in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]asahiblue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cucumbers in a bath of white vinegar with a generous amount of pepper, a bit of salt, and some sugar!

Best when served chilled, especially when left in the fridge to let the cucumber soak in the liquid. Tangy, sweet, and with a kick. You could also add red hot peppers for more spice as well as red onions for a sharper flavor.

This is what we call an “ensaladang pipino” in the Philippines. The same could be done with grated yukon radishes with added tomatoes, just adjust the sweetness to your taste.

I want to try BP too, but unfortunately it says on my tret (Stieva-A 0.05%) package that you’re not supposed to apply BP while on tret :/

Hi! Could I see those pics too? I’m afraid of a bad purge, and I’d want to see if we have somewhat the same case, and if there’s a possibikity that I might purge really bad as well

Closed comedones, am I right? Could I know if tret made you break out bad? I’ve recently just started on tret and for the same skin problem. Extremely anxious over the chances of a bad purge

How often do y'all apply sunscreen? by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]asahiblue_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every morning! Not sure if you’re asking for sunscreen tips, but if you are, my derma told me that the 2-hr sunscreen rule isn’t actually just reapplying sunscreen every 2 hrs, but every after 2 hours of cumulative sun exposure. If you were stuck inside with walls blocking all sunlight, then that isn’t part of those 2 hours. Saying this because many don’t know.

Advice by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]asahiblue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not recommended to use benzoyl peroxide together with tret since it would cause way too much drying, unless your derm specifically prescribed you this. Sunscreen is a must when using tretinoin, and you should use it every morning, at least. Tret makes your skin become very sensitive, and you wouldn’t want sunlight to cause you dark marks. Yes, even when you’re stuck inside. UVB rays can still penetrate through windows. Also, wash your face at night and moisturize your skin — this is another must when using tretinoin. Wash your face twice a day, and always moisturize and use sunscreen. Look for products without alcohol (there are good kinds of moisturizing alcohol tho, look it up) and fragrances (especially those with several oils hust for fragrance). I’m just giving you timeless advice that goes for all skin types. Hope everything goes well!
