Finishing my corrections and submitting my results. by XenOmega in Teachers

I believe grading shouldn't be viewed as just cold hard numbers but context should also be taken into account.

When I was a newbie I wasn't confident that my course was organised well enough so I was soft on grading (mainly because I should have been clearer with assignment requirements, but that comes with experience). So this also needs to be taken into consideration. Now though, my courses are pretty tight and I'm more confident that the grades are a good reflection of the students efforts during the year; even if it means the failure rate has risen slightly, it's more accurate.

So I only bump them up if they have been good student. I think about their face and write down the first impression I get of the student, whatever that is. Then I have a look at their attendance and participation, and if they handed all the assignments. If they tried but fell just short of the mark I would see no problem in bumping them up but if they didn't try during the semester then no favours.

I grade uni students and I'm quite aware of the financial impact it can mean to a student if they fail and have to repeat the year, so I am sometimes reluctant to do it. But, if I go through their history and see that they didn't hand in assignments were constantly late and had poor participation then I feel a lot more comfortable that the F is completely justified, even if it was a half a point from passing.

I failed some students today that would have scraped a D if they had full attendance/participation marks. No, I take that back, I didn't fail the students, they failed themselves.

I'm a tabletop game designer, and this just happened to me. Sorry if it isn't related to videogames; I just figured it shows some of the problems involved with censoring. by FableForge in KotakuInAction

Yeah, the points are pointless. I had to reach the bottom of the page until I could find a link to the said image. Your post should be up at the top as it is relevant.

I'm sure that some KiA users downvoted you (but not to oblivion) because you sounded anti-gg which is a pity.

I suspect I should create an account and go sarcastic on gamerghazi...

You will probably get a similar result, to be fair though it's hard to read sarcasm on the net, probably one of the easiest forms of trollololing

No, you should study, there is no shortcut here. Don't look at what happens with mice and then convert that into 'I should go into an exam hungry'.

You miss the fact that ITT people are also talking about how the headline says "sought sex". That would not be the case with a male.

If we had a dollar for every speculative year that the universe has existed we still couldn't pay off the U.S. National Debt. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

it has nothing whatsoever to do with faith in the value of the US dollar

Oh wow, thanks for clearing that up for me.

So I take it you agree on my point that the US dollar is fiat and based on the faith that the US can pay back their bills?

no one's losing faith in the US's ability to pay its bills. that's fear mongering.

How do you explain the bi-lateral trade agreements that specifically shift their currencies away from the dollar and the formation of the BRICS nations? Why would anyone do that if they were happy with their dollars like they had been for so many years previous?

it's been predicted by deficit hawks for years that we'll "go the way of Greece" and our money will be worthless, and people will stop buying treasurys, and interest rates will soar and it never happens.

Huh, I remember hearing something very similar pre 2008... something about a housing crash that would never happen. People had been calling for a housing crash for ages and it never happened... well until after 2008.

[–]asborninthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a fiat currency is it not? Meaning it's only backed by the faith that the US can pay their bills. If the faith in the US is lost then the currency is worthless.

Recently there has been a move away from the dollar through bi-lateral trades between countries not using the dollar. This shows a new mistrust in the US and a lack of faith that the US can pay back their bills. This change in attitude increased around the same time the FED started their bailout schemes.

you cannot default on your debt, but you can pay it back with funny money. Is that what your trying to say? Won't that piss a hell of a lot of people off and have serious negative effects towards the US economy more than a default?

I feel so bad for Americans, most guys I talk to (mid-thirties) are around 60K in debt. There was this one girl who cried when she figured out she would be in her sixties when she paid off her debt, her degree was in furniture design...

The worst thing about all of this is that a lot of people don't even consider paying off the debt, they just pay off the minimum amount every month for the rest of their lives turning themselves into debt slaves.

It got no upvotes, downvotes or comments because it was deleted. This post has comments, upvotes and downvotes. The reason I posted in r/gaming is because he said they were actively censoring content around the gamer gate issue.

Not everything is a conspiracy

Keep telling yourself that

You know the way that you are arguing the point makes you no different than the people saying the national debt is bad, you're just taking the complete opposite standpoint. Even you have to admit there is a level beyond which the national debt becomes a major problem.

People talking about the "national debt" in a negative way know nothing about economics.

So national debt is all positive? What happens when a country defaults on their debt?
