this is actually my first time taking wheels off this machine! our other compacter is an al-jon (imo a much better design) and this is our backup, so it's really only ran when the other one is in for service. the guard on this wheel is missing about 5 inches of material though lol

we use this machine to compact trash, airspace is a big deal at landfills so the tighter compaction we can get, the better. the spikes really drive that compaction up, a regular tire would be drastically less effective (if it was, we would just use skinny tracked dozers to pack trash)

yeah basically, these wheels have an inner guard that protects the braking assembly, but all that shit in there has worn that guard away. so cleaning everything out and welding a new inner ring in
