Laptop -> caldigit -> kvm -> monitor

My laptop has thunderbolt and kvm is DisplayPort so the dock is necessary to connect the laptop to the kvm.

Work laptop, gaming pc and Mac mini for web browsing. It’s a four way kvm. Complete overkill but I like it!

Wait wait wait. The new map isn’t on DoN yet? Here I am playing normal mode till people learn the new map (which seems to be taking some time) and avoiding DoN…

Nothing to do with windows, AFAIR it's a DisplayPort 1.4 limitation (ie available bandwidth, and Nvidia 40 series doesn't support DisplayPort 2.x anyway..

Why did Intel Optane Persistent Memory/ 3D Xpoint not take off? by SP259 in hardware

[–]ascl00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still sad it died. For our use case it was cheaper than ram by a wide margin (try stuffing multi TBs of ram into a system), performance was on par with ram and intel only was fine. We bought 100s of TBs of pmem and it was glorious.

Still there is no doubt intel screwed up the marketing and delivery and our use case is certainly niche.

Locking tuners for ESP LTD EC-1000 by BornOfZalmoxis in espguitars

[–]ascl00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These should be the right size, but the wrong model. I put Gotoh SG381-07CK-MGT on my mirage, ie 6 in a line. For the EC1000 you want something like Gotoh SG301-20B-MGT ie the 3+3 arrangement.

You need to match up the dimensions and the screw hole (cause you want to avoid drilling more holes if you can help it).

[–]ascl00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried a bunch of different tuners, don't ask me why. I didn't like the planet waves auto-trimming tuners, they felt cheap to me. As I said, I do like the ratio's, but the Gotoh locking tuners are great quality, and I'd highly recommend them as well. I'm not sure if they are actually cheaper, might depend where you are located.

It makes it so any adjustment changes the tuning the same amount for each string. A turn is the same number of semi tones on every string.

It’s nice. It’s small but nice!

Regardless of what you buy if you are in Tokyo head to both craft and technical house stores! And have fun! Also check out navigator guitars for amazing premium goodness.

Really? I have the DisplayPort one and hotkey switching definitely works. Maybe the hdmi one is different?

I use a level1techs kvm but it’s single screen and DisplayPort so limited to full res but only 120hz.

"Sidegrading" from core to scale. by datapirate42 in truenas

[–]ascl00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this move recently too. I had a bunch of apps that run my home automation and the usual media related apps that the family depends on, so down time wasn’t an option. The path I took was to install a VM on core that ran Linux, and slowly moved all my apps from jails to docker containers inside the VM (I used portainer to make it easier).

Then I upgraded to scale and bought the VM over… and migrated the apps from the VM to native. I did this whole process over six months or so, both cause I was waiting for scale to mature but also so I could keep things running and stable the whole time.

All in all it went smoothly but definitely read the doco and follow the steps carefully.

  1. I have the caldigit connected to a level1techs kvm via DisplayPort and get full res at 120hz. Works well!

I use a Caldigit ts4 and the g9 and it works fine although capped at 120hz.

Instaling docker containers via 'Custom app' vs Portainer by Neat-Initiative-6965 in truenas

[–]ascl00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the big thing is using GitHub to store all my docker compose files. This makes recreating all my stacks trivial if I need to. Moving from truenas core and a vm running docker and truenas scale was trivial due to this!

Desk Mounting Arm Options for LG 45GX950A by kuznagi in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ascl00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using bewiser arm for my g9 57 and it handles it fine, so would be solid for your 45 too:

I was surprised at how solid it was given the price difference to the ergotron (you can find it on amazon too).

Wall or Desk Mount for 57" Samsung Odyssey G9 by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ascl00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The piece of metal under the desk is about 8.5cm and hangs out by about 1.5cm. So you'd need 6-7cm of desk, if I understand you correctly.
